"Wait a minute, you're telling me that 100% of my proceeds don't go to African children?? What do you mean that movies and trips to and from Africa aren't free???? Con artist!" I know, right. Asking that a charity use more then 1/3 of the money donated on actual people is so ridiculous. And saying they shouldn't use it to fund other militant groups that do similar things as Kony is outrageous as well.

ironically I just ran into this while just hearing about this whole fiasco. I can see how the Yale prof. considers them naive and dangerous... I am disturbed if what the link says is true considering the IC group exists on my campus.

"Wait a minute, you're telling me that 100% of my proceeds don't go to African children?? What do you mean that movies and trips to and from Africa aren't free???? Con artist!" 31% of the funds only go to actual aid, and this aid is in the form of supporting the Ugandan military who there are allegations against for similar crimes. You want to help out African families? Donate to a charity like Doctors Without Borders who use 100% of your funds to actually help people... instead of paying off militaries to have someone executed. The video everyone watched is nothing more than emotional blackmail. It strategically manipulates facts and uses sensationalist tactics. The money you donate isn't even independantly audited. It could literally be going ANYWHERE and no one would know the difference.

This just in, a lot of African countries are screwed up. There's dozens of Joseph Kony's and just pretending that stopping one is a victory is ridiculous. Heck, Joseph Kony isn't even the worst thing happening in Uganda let alone the whole continent.

The dramatic music, slow camera changes, big voice-over, crying children, dead people and mixed with the opposite happy son to show the contrast. Populist method of bringing your message over to others will never fair good with me but I already knew mr. kony so I had to stop after five minutes because that sort of sensationalism makes me crazy. Now if anyone believes that I just critiqued the reason why he did it, you are wrong. He will most likely get most attention out of it and will see it as a path to biggest recognition with his tools. Legit method, I cannot blame him for that. A lot of people will respond best to this sort of message but I would be happier if people didn`t. The same style can be applied to propaganda and fear-mongering videos and he obviously did not to that, but the system is the same. Beware of videos/messages/truths that come this way, it has nothing to do with news or journalism. As far as I know he never claimed to be that so how can I blame him for using this ? I cannot. He was most likely very frustrated as nothing happened and had to do something. It is sad that it had to come that far but now that he has done it, we will see what is going to happen. The cynic in me says nothing but we can always hope for the best. Still a bad video but many people will disagree with me Again, I am not playing down his message at all. if nothing else worked, he can at least try it this way. Only the method makes me crazy. CRAZY. I agree and above that the film maker presented it as a personal issue with the Jacob thing and his son. I agree that this guy is a problem, but this approach is just wrong. I was watching another video from their channel and they were singing and dancing it seems to make the issue less serious. If he had presented this things it would have been more serious in my opinion: -What Kony has done -How this has effected people and how many (Not on a personal level) -How the people can show support towards this movement to their government -And no optimistic promises about how Kony will be arrested this year. And last I'm sure people don't respond as well as you would think to this kinds of messages. They presented it as if they stop Kony the world will be all bright and shinny. I felt horrible every time I heard him say that we are shaping history (as in this is the most important event of this century). If they didn't ask for money I'm sure a lot of people (who are turned off by them asking for money) might have actually looked into donating if they thought the organization deserved it. Bottom line; if they wanted to spread awareness they didn't need to ask for money just let the video go viral. Yet another thing that I agree with.
