We are currently talking about this issue in the mod forum. We take this issue very seriously, and want to find the best way to serve those who want faster results, and those that don't wish to be spoiled. |
I wholeheartedly agree with the OP. I think if you don't want to be spoiled, it's on you to make sure you don't and it's perfectly possible. I live in Europe and like american sports. Me and my friends watch all of the NFL playoffs every year, and because the games are player in the middle of the night, we watch them at least a day late. And I don't want to be spoiled, so I just don't visit espn.com or any sports site or basically any american news site. Or twitter. I can tell you, there's a shitton of NFL news on the internet. We cover half of our screen when clicking on the match to watch (we watch the games online from that nfl.com gamepass thingy) and while it's not easy, I think it's acceptable that you actively have to make sure you don't read the results. It boggles my mind how somebody can sit at work, doesn't want to know last nights GSL results, and decides that teamliquid.net is the best place to not read them. (Additionally, but that's just my personal opinion, I don't think watching Starcraft 2 gets worse when you don't know the results, so I always check how GSL went even if I plan on watching the games later.)
|
kinda agree with the OP as well. When I miss my favourite team's games, I just check for the results online anyways.
|
thank god i was able to watch the vods of the tsl2 final and the tsl3 final without knowing the results before i watched the matches
just read the LR if you wanna know everything about what happened
Do we really want to have an anticlimactic homepage just to please the 5% spoilers-freaks people ?
seeing the results without seeing the games is pretty anticlimactic imho

I'm a pretty casual fan of the SC2 pro scene, but it's frustrating at times to try and find out what tournaments are worth watching, when and where they're airing, who won, etc.. A front page of TL that actually was kept updated with relevant information on events and outcomes would make it all far more interesting and easier to follow for me. Wholeheartedly want to see this.

Poll: Do think live tournament results on TL frontpage is a good idea ?Yes (4507) 86% No (386) 7% Yes, but only if TL add a spoilerfree VOD page that is easily accessible. (364) 7% 5257 total votes Your vote: Do think live tournament results on TL frontpage is a good idea ? (Vote): Yes (Vote): No (Vote): Yes, but only if TL add a spoilerfree VOD page that is easily accessible.
Wow, that's quite a one-sided poll ! Hopin' TL staff sees that !

First of all, Slashers hair is hurting esports. Okay. Tournaments are pretty bad on vods. If I want to watch something I missed I have to dig deep to find the vods. GSL is the big difference here! After I search on a tournaments website I head to twitch.tv nothing there then comes google and last I have to come to TL to dig for vods. Now... let's say tournaments are going to fix this and upload vods within 4hours. (GSL can do it, why can't others?) TL's tournament portals can also improve and provide vods. What I would like to see as a change on TL is the following: Starcraft News: IPL Results, Final Standings. Once you opened the article: BOOM! Stephano won. You don't click if you don't want to know. And that's that

Nobody said you can't find results if you want to. ofc i did read.. i just don't understand how he thinks that having the result spoiled on the front page makes the story-telling better in any way imho only watching vods can convey the full story but to me personally that experience is completely ruined when i know the result before i see the games
|
For me it's okay a "spoiler TL", but I would like to see other page where I can find the VODs.
But i'm sure a website will be create for this. So, it's okay

It was probably mentioned somewhere in this whole thread but notice how are major sports web pages constructed. Each of them have somehwere on front page results. Some even include live updates. Why would we treat Starcraft different ? I personally don't mind seeing score. If game was great i'm gonna watch it anyway. A great game is a great game no matter if you know score or you don't. I think it is simple as that. But also i don't mind some version of front page that is spoiler free.

Great op. I would've liked to have seen a big pic of Stephano headlined "To the bank!"
I presume the tlpro site is for the more rapid newsfeed, but let's face it, how much traffic does that site get in comparison to tl?

no its not. since when was teamliquid purely a results site?
this argument is ridiculous and stupid. people come to teamliquid for hundreds of reasons, results is just one of them. why should people who live in a different time zone / were busy possibly have their games spoiled because you cant be bothered to click a spoiler tag?
|
of course it is, but that fear is only natural, as the starcraft scene grows and exceeded the limits of a scene where you can still watch every game played as you were used to.
|
I hope to see a giant picture of the pink power ranger here after the weekend. Nice OP and poll.

Everytime you want to talk about a specific topic that even remotely relates to a tournament you have to spoiler it or use another example, everytime you have to watch what you are going to say because often times people will bitch at you for spoilering results.
On the other side, often enough NOTHING happens when people spoiler like hardcore. It's "just" bad luck if somebody actually gets offended by this; and it's always the vast minority. Just 1-2 people complaining about 100 other people. Because of this, the news on TeamLiquid are often times no news but rather posts about the beginning of a tournament that happened days/weeks ago.
Imho we should adjust to the majority and the majority obviously wants the actual results rather than posts full of spoiler-tags and "the-game-you-are-not-allowed-to-talk-about"-phrases.

Why doesn't somebody create a starcraft2 news website? I want to read a fully functional, up to the minute news website. I'd do it myself but I don't have the time or commitment. I really think there is a huge market for this kind of thing.
|
Im all for adding tournament results to the site. If i dont want to be spoiled on a football match i dont go to newssites either.
I mean, why are livereport threads even spoilered? Why would you read a livereport thread if not to see results or talk about the games.

Ahah i was thinking the same, but TL is quite awesome, so not only don't I have time for this, also I don't think it would be that easy to do a site (and a community) as good as TL... Still, it should be done, just because competition is good and it makes everyone try harder
