Anyone in Canada buy from WASD Keyboards or Elitekeyboards? How is the shipping/customs? I'm in the US, but I've heard bad things about cost and shipping time from Canadians. : /

Brown cherry keys is boss, best for gaming/typing/home use. Tried the razer keyboards, such flimsy shitty keys on it, and cheap plastic feel
Edit: anyone know where i can buy key caps for my das keyboard in canada?
where did you manage to find an $80 das professional ultimate silent? Is this in US currency? Was it new? I've always wanted them but were a little too pricey. I'd buy it instantly for that price

Any Canadian sources then to avoid the hassle?

I've been eyeing a lot of keyboards for a while and I can't really decide if I want browns or blacks. I don't think I can handle the loud clacking of blues. I've been really looking at the Meka G1 and the 6gv2. I would even consider a das if I would like it. It just sucks I don't live where I can try some of these before buying.

Wow - been reading this thread and had no idea there were so many decisions and options, lol. In the end decided that I wanted 'red' switches - these are harder to find but I was able to find a Ducky with Red Cherry MX switches.

Do you guys think this is a good one? Does TL sign off on this for me
Thanks guys!

cheaper board, it has Chinese characters, but will not affect your typing in anyway, you will have to enable your Chinese keyboard pack in order to type in Chinese. Reds are a fun keyswitch, you should like it very much. Plus when you order this you get a free keychain keyswitch they're awesome!

I'm located in Toronto. I recently purchased a Leopold Red Cherry. Total came to $150. Then I had to pay an extra $25 to Canada Post so I could get it. So Grand total $175. Worth it? Idk. I love my keyboard, but I wanted a red cherry so badly. But after that I have seen the how much I actually spent on it, I should have just bought a TT sports black chery keyboard from Canada computers.

Thanks boblehead - looks like the same keyboard but cheaper and with the chinese characters on the keys.
Cool - and glad that you approve of reds! Seems like there is quite a lot of debate on this, but in the end I thought I wanted "not clicky" and "linea" so that came down to black vs. red. Seems like the less force required of reds sounded good. And Ducky seems like one of the top brands, so this one seemed like a winner. Only downside is it has the tenkeys, but whaddy gonna do.

newegg.ca also has the same deal for Canadians.

Is an illuminated mechanical keyboard really an option? I know they have the black widow ultimate, but a lot of people are saying that the black widow is a poor quality keyboard.
|
Sorry if I sound noob, but are mechanical keyboards really worth their 100+ price? I've read a lot of people rave about them but are they really that much better than a 10 dollar keyboard? If they are worth the investment, then aren't those similarly priced non-mechanical gaming keyboards just overpriced luxury items?
I am just wondering because I am still using my 10 year old Logitech keyboard and I just don't understand all the praise for mechanical ones.
|
non-mechanical gaming keyboards are overpriced yeah.
It depends on what you think is worth what, but they definitely are nicer than the 10$ keyboards. For some people, the 10$ keyboards are totally fine. However you should at least go to a store to try them out.

Idk if a mechanical keyboard is worth $100+ but the difference in quality is quite big. Think about the following first.
Lets compare it to basketball. If you enjoy playing basketball a lot, then you would go buy a pair of basketball shoes for $100, regardless if you play competitively or not. This is the same with mechanical keyboards. If you spend a lot of time on the computer and have the extra cash go ahead and buy one. The main difference between a mechanical keyboard and a membrane is the level of comfort for typing but it won't make you a faster typer or better sc2 player, just like how the shoes won't make u a better basketball player.
Are they that much better? Yes, but is it worth $100?, I guess its personal preference but definitely not a necessity. Remember, not a necessity! On another note, never buy a non-mechanical gaming keyboard, never at least for starcraft 2. Stupidest thing i've seen especially at the same price of a mechanical keyboard cause it has some fancy macro buttons and lights.
I own the das keyboard ultimate silent model s, brown cherry switches, and its like typing on heaven. Once you type on a mechanical keyboard, you will never want to go back to a membrane and i'm sure everyone who has a mechanical keyboard in this thread can vouch for it. As for starcraft 2, my preference as a gm zerg is the brown or red switches.

Theres the Ducky Shine if you can get it where you are located. From what I hear they are pretty good quality.
There is also the Mionix Zibal, not sure about the quality, but green leds are cool.
And the new Corsair K90, but the function row and macro keys are rubber dome. But it makes up for this with one of the most creative mech keyboard designs.
So Illuminated is an option, but may not be easily available where you live. And if you really like illuminated keys then Im sure you could live with the Black Widow. The quality concerns are a little overstated, I think there is a good chance you will get a board that works fine. But there is some element of risk.

Its like basketball. You enjoy playing basketball alot, then you would go buy a pair of basketball shoes for $100. Same with mechanical keyboard, if you spend lota time on the computer, and got the money buy one. Big difference in the comfort of typing but it won't make you a faster typer or better sc2 player, like how the shoes won't make u a better basketball player.

This is a great summary of mech boards. Add to the OP worthy imo (after abit of grammar cleaning).
