link the free stream pls...

That's fine. Not like MLG is lacking on event awareness, seeing as how it's been the topic of everything for the past two weeks. And obviously if you bought the event you won't forget that you bought it, so you don't need a reminder.

I don't understand this decision.
The IPL or GSL or NASL are businesses just as much as MLG is, despite having free streams. Why should the business model the tournament chooses to use affect whether or not TL gives them "free advertising"?
Here is another way of looking at it:
The TL calendar is both a service for its users, and a service for tournaments (advertising).
Seen as a service for users, I think it does us a disservice not to list a PPV stream. In my experience, the clean layout of TL is often easier to navigate than tournament's own sites, and so If I were using schedulin as a criterion for whether or not to purchase this event, I might well check there first. Or I might look there to see when I should check the LR thread.
Seen as service for tournament organizers, I don't understand the reasoning that happily provides free advertising to tournaments with free streams - advertising which is still valuable, as tournaments tout their viewer counts to advertisers - while denying it to PPV events, unless the goal is to discourage tournaments from adopting a PPV structure. Which, as I understand it, TL is claiming is not their intent.
Perhaps I've misnderstood. Please enlighten me.

I don't know how much that would affect established events like MLG, DH, GSL, etc. I guess it could affect smaller events, but I wouldn't think they'd go PPV to get off the ground, and if they did, TL might be tempted to "help out the little guy" by listing the events, bringing us back to the slippery slope discussion...

All this drama & like 14 threads MLG is gettin hits. What's that saying - good news or bad but at least they're relevant. (or something like that)
AFAIAC - It's just another tourney - to bad they change $20 fuckin dollars for what should be $5 at best. G fuckin SL is cheaper than that. Where do they get off charging more? To watch a bunch of Koreans pwn foreigners? LOL.

I think a line definately needs to be drawn, and there are plenty of events that should not be listed on the calendar entries. Saying that, I think TL is great as a information resource, and for me it's a primary driver to your site. Id agree that I love having all the links able to be embedded etc, and you do have a high quality standard at the moment, but there should be exceptions for premium events. This would include people such as GOM, Dreamhack, IPL, MLG, etc.
For these events, considering their rarity I think the information given is more of a positive to your users even if it is purely advertising. I don't want big splash screen ads on TL telling me different things, but I probably would appreciate a one line link on the side of the page with all the other events so I can still use TL as my ONLY information resource.
I agree. All the big major tournaments should be in the calendar. I don't care if it's free or PPV. It should be on the calendar b/c the TL calendar is a useful tool to know what streams are happening in the SC2 world.

I did not realize that. I didn't see any announcements about portals being paid, when they made their first one for MLG: http://www.teamliquid.net/mlg/ Does that mean MLG has paid for event advertising before? If so, I'm even more confused why they wouldn't pay for Winter Arena!

I don't understand the logic that because something is bigger or more significant, that the rules should be bent for it.
I doubt you'd want this logic to apply in the real world.

Because they were previously getting that Calendar entry for free, while the timer at the top has always been at a cost. Apparently they didn't want to pay for something that they used to get for free. *cough*

TL has to apply a threshold based on size/significance for the calendar, or else there would be too much noise on the calendar. I think Peleus's and Nighthawks28's point was that they (and many others I'm sure) see/use the calendar as informational, so removal of major events that would normally be listed makes TL less valuable (accurate?) as a news/information source?

It's simple. I believe the part of the rules are wrong (in my opinion of course). The TL calendar should be an awesome tool, which lists the SC2 events in the world. I believe all the major tournaments should be there. Now I cannot view the TL calendar as a complete source of SC2 events b/c it won't list MLG.

What if you were to link users Twitchtv accounts to their profile, since Twitchtv is hosting the PPV, and make it so those accounts who have paid for the PPV get the stream put on their calender?
I'm not a programmer, so please forgive my ignorance if this isn't doable.

a Concise and good decision. MLG pay. Not free. Teamliquid isn't going to force us or try to convince us to pay

I don't understand how this is an issue. MLG has made the event PPV; they have multiple threads on TL discussing what you get for the $20 (i.e. exposure/advertising); TL won't feature because MLG doesn't have a free stream; People who have purchased the PPV wouldn't be watching the event on TL anyways.
Also I don't remember the pay streams from the MLG championships last year being listed, I think only the red and blue were.
