oh wow thanks for the link (could've used search function but didn't expect there to be a tutorial on TL ^^). and it does look quite simple .. i always thought you have to know like 50 tile combinations to be able to play. also only time i saw mahjong was in gintama (they did a parody of akagi) so it kinda confused me.
After reading a bit, just try to play few games on Tenhou (you don't have to make a ID and just play as NoName) and you'll get the basics pretty quickly. In fact, is there anyone willing to quickly play few games on Tenhou here? If there is one more I can get 3-person game going and teach you the basics on IRC as game progresses I think.

That is probably the most accurate representation of what goes on in Mahjong. The only difference would be that all the players have cigarettes, but you can usually forgive the minor details.

I am ぶらすちい(burasutii) on Tenhou =P
For once the google trans failed me. I'm guessing your ID doesn't have any definitive meaning? Also I'll be sticking around for awhile today until the proleague starts, so if anyone is interested in playing Japanese mahjong online feel free to drop in at #tlmahjong IRC any time!

Poor ZnF. I didn't know this was happening, else I would have at least shown up. I kinda Ragequitted TL for a bit after trying to follow the Orb drama.
