edit: although that might be because i play solo Hungering Arrow seems really useless to me, all of the runes for it are meh, and the other options just seem to outperform it in any specific context. Entangling Shot has a nice slow and not really much lower dps. Bola is great AoE+stun, and grenades are the best option if you're getting close enough. I've switched among all of them, but never seen a reason to switch to Hungering Arrow. Hungering arrow can go around corners, and with shatter shot, it's pretty awesome. Entangling hits like a girl, bola takes it's sweet time to kill, although it is kinda useful for some things. Hungering also does it's damage as physical, you don't see much that's immune to it.
You dont use Entangling shot for Damage, you use it to kite the hell out of everything. I been running Entangling(Chain gang) with Elemental Arrow(screaming skull), Caltrops (jagged spikes), Vault (tumble), Fan of Knives (Hail of Knives), and Multishot (Fire at Will) along with Perfectionist, Vengeance and Numbing Traps.
Basically I vault in, spam caltrops, vault out, kite with stutterstep combo of Entangling->Damage spell->Entangling->Damage spell depending on which damage type kills faster, and then you use Fan of Knives+Vault if you in trouble.
You get so much utility with this build it silly. Just finished hell solo with this setup without any real difficulties.

I think I'd fall asleep. To each his own, in Diablo, but I couldn't do that. The way I play gets enough utility for me, at least so far, and doesn't feel like I'm playing some bizarre methed out whack-a-mole drive-by.
|
Just curious as to what method everyone uses to kite.
I'm utilising shift (attack ground) and basically issuing move commands, then holding shift and issuing attack commands, so when I'm kiting back my mouse is moving like a pendulum back and forward, back and forward. Using shift means I don't have to click ON an enemy to attack. I'm assuming this is the standard, correct?
I tried playing around with the move key initially, but it seemed clunky and useless for kiting sideways or backwards. I don't have the mouse accuracy to not use shift and simply click behind my character then on an enemy every single time. Too many misclicks. Are there any other methods?

Anyone here on hell and higher using Grenades? They're so fucking bad compared to the other options, I hope Blizzard has a look at them :/
I'm using at lvl 39 on Act 2 on Nightmare 4.3k hp, 1.1k dps with 2h+quiver;
Bola with Volatile Explosives/Thunder ball Elemental Arrow with Ball lightning Fan of Knives with Hail of Knives Shadow Power with Blood Moon I can tank swarmers using ball lightning, Caltrops with Torturous Ground for difficult packs Vault with Rattling Roll, I switch out to Marked for Death with Valley of Death for bosses Cluster Arrow with Shooting Stars
Steady Aim, Cull of the Weak/Vengeance and Archery for passives
I hope Blizzard thinks about doing a passover in the future for Passives, some of them just suck to the point of offering no choice.

Do you guys prioritize vitality at all? I do insane DPS(if 380 is even insane -- I kill stuff megafast but I'm not sure if that's even high), but if I get caught by even one ability from a boss I get one shotted(Nightmare, btw).

380 DPS in nightmare? WTF? That's actually kinda shit. I stack a fair amount of vitality. I have ~10k hp at level 40, halfway through A2 NM. With 1400 DPS. And it frequently feels low. What stats are you stacking? +dmg, +dex, +vit is my priority. 2H+quiver.

380 dmg is actually very low in nm. i have 740 so far and it's BARELY adequate.
as for HP, i'm in act 1 NM with 4K hp and still have trouble with arcane enchant mobs.. and that guy above me with almost 10K hp is also saying it doesn't feel adequate.

Yeah..that's in the character equipment screen, I'm not sure if there's a way to test out my DPS in fights.
I'm stacking DMG and +Dex, then vitality where I can get it. Using a 2H+Quiver as well, and flawed or normal emeralds in any socket gear.

try to get flawless (if not better) rubies into your weapons. the seemingly small damage increases (3-5, 4-6, whatever) in d3 are actually huge for you in terms of dps as they add to base damage which get multiplied by dex and your various other modifiers.
don't worry, you'll find good gear even early on in act 1 to boost that up. i found my current 1h crossbow on jondar, actually. pleasant surprise

you need a better weapon. and look for rings that have a damage stat. damage stat is hugely important. There probably is a cheap weapon in the auction house that will double your damage.

So update from my last post when I was lvl 18. I'm currently in middle of NM act 2 almost lvl 40 just soloing through, and after playing around with all the skills, I've come to
http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/demon-hunter#aQdYXV!Ybe!babaZb
With follower, I never die unless I lag and I don't see the use of any other skills to do dps. Currently doing 2k dps with 5k ish hp. Just as a tip to others who are lacking dps- USE THE AUCTION HOUSE as many others have mentioned. I went from 600 dps to 2k with a couple of buys, maxing out dex and vit as much as possible. + dmg rings/ammys multiply dps tremendously as well.

By damage stat, do you mean +dmg or +dexterity?
I have an amulet that gives +50 dexterity, and two rings that give about +20 each and some crit. I also haven't seen a weapon drop that gives me higher base dps AND better stats(mine has around 40 dps and +75 dexterity). It must be my other gear...but I don't have any survivability as is :/

whats the diff between 2 hand and 1 hand bow? any benefit?
and also i just sac a 1.60 attk speed for a far better bow 1.10 speed, the damage is okay to me and the speed is damn slow.any solutions?

Anyone playing solo DH HC in Hell? I feel so weak against most rare packs. Public in HC is so lame everyone just sits back and waits for someone else to kill everything.
Currently using Mutli(fire at will) Caltrops(80%) rapid fire(wither) vault(knockback) shadow power(blood moon) Hungering shot(shatter)
14k hp 2.7k dps 1.5k armor

+dmg. at the later stages the +dmg modifiers become even more important while the increases from increasing dex drop off in efficiency.

I'm in nightmare act 1, got 800 DPS and 5000+ health... you might look into getting some better equipment.
By the way, the build I currently use for solo leveling in Nightmare and that I really like:
LMB - Impale - Overpenetration
RMB - Chakram - Twin Chakram(Or Razor Disk)
1 - Companion - Bat Companion
2 - Smoke Screen - Displacement
3 - Entangling Shot - Chain Gang
4 - Evasive Fire - Covering Fire
Passives: Steady Aim - Cull The Weak - Archery
Pretty obvious, Impale for when the enemies are lined up or 1v1, Chakram when you either need to throw a few discs and GTFO or when there's a ton of more spread-out monsters, Bat for Hatred, Smoke Screen for getting out of jail when Evasive Fire isn't enough, Entangling Shot for kiting mobs while DPSing with your LMB and RMB, Evasive Fire for single target hatred accumulation and also for kiting against unslowable monsters or for quick escaping. You can for instance completely avoid Leoric's teleport strike with Evasive Fire. For 1v1 vs slowable enemy you slow enough to keep it up constantly and use Impale otherwise. This is entirely a mobbing build, for bosses / other expected tough 1v1 battles you will obviously alter it(I run something different against every single boss, for instance against one boss(Can't remember the name, I think it was act IV midboss?) I ran LMB Impale - Impact and RMB Bola Shot - Thunderball for permastun / warp interrupt
Nightmare's been absolute faceroll with this setup, can solo multiple rares at once without getting hit threateningly and around 6 Chackrams clear entire hordes in no time. Against a single non-slowable sped-up monster you can just hold Evasive Fire down and they should die eventually.
Note I probably should try Multishot to replace something though I really love Chakrams

I didnt realize it til I had looked at the achievement but I defeated Diablo (Normal) without taking any damage. This was my build http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/demon-hunter#aRXVkP!Yc!baZaa. Smoke screen his laser, avoid everything else. Ball lighting to waste hatred and kept turret up at all times. My DPS was <400, so yes it was a long fight but easy nonetheless.
