I'm in A4 nm and I'm using a combo that gives me around 30 sec of invulnerability, usually almost every fight (and every one with elites for sure). I was having survivability issues but right now I more or less rip through anything and it doesn't require kiting. I'm pretty sure they will nerf the hell out of this though:
Skills/passives: smokescreen (w/ 3s rune), preparation (w/ regen 45/15sec rune), night stalker, multishot (fire at will) The combo: -smokescreen (3s), while attacking obviously -smokescreen (3s) (may not have to use this right after if you position yourself well) -by this time, you will have regenerated at least 6 discipline and I find that with multishot crits and night stalker, I will have enough for -smokescreen (3s) -preparation - this is the part of the combo that is insane: 45 disc/15s is 3 disc/sec and with 3s smokescreens, that 9 disc + 3 disc from passive regeneration; with night stalker, you get topped off that extra couple of disc you need to use smokescreen every 3s, essentially giving you 15s of invulnerability.
Note that you probably wont be using smokescreen right after the other during the fight unless you are super paranoid, so by the end you will probably have enough for an extra smokescreen or two. Also, I use vengeance so during this time if I need hp/hatred, I run around invincible picking up health globes.
I'm using multishot for aoe and impale w/ stun for single target dps. I'm not sure if this is the fastest clear build but imo it's probably the safest atm.
IMO in hell/inferno you absolutely need smokescreen. IDK how you can get around it considering even in nm the jailer/anything elites will completely rape you (also, sometimes the waller elites get you too).

Do you guys prioritize dexterity or +dmg? I feel like I have too much Dex and not enough base dmg.

On the rare occasion I actually have a choice between the two, I prioritize whichever gives me a bigger boost to my total throughput between the two items I'm actually comparing.

For those who've ever played Ragnarok Online mage/wizards: you can vertical firewall with the Demon Hunter Spike Traps runed with Scatter. Drop them at a 90 degree angle and let whatever mobs you're kiting walk into all 3 of them.

Ok, Hell is finally making my current build not work. It was awesome for the longest time, but I need Bola stun now.
Screw bola abuse, I'll save it for bosses. Swapped out spike trap with rapid fire, withering. Amazing little ability, that. How have I not bothered with it before?

O_O Not playing D3 yet but does this "wall off" the units like in RO?

Idk, I'm in Act 1 NM, and I have like 1200 hp and 800 dexterity but apparently my damage is shit. Switching to a new bow gives me about 300 dps increase, so I wasn't sure if you guys are getting +dmg rings/amulets or just taking dext and vitality where you can.

I'm in Act 1 NM with about 3k hp and 600 or so dexterity..once I discovered that the auction shop uses gold and not strictly real money (I seriously had no idea) my dps quadrupled :p

While playing today a question popped into my head... In the end game, is it better to be using 2 hand crossbow or is it better to be using a bow with quiver? Which option provides you with more damage?

DH can use a Quiver with any ranged weapon, including 2h Xbows. Get a MH with the most dps you can find and use a Quiver. I prefer 1h Xbow + Quiver for the attack speed and the Quiver seems to provide more DPS than another OH 1h Xbow.

Spike Traps are just exploding traps that a DH can place. They deal a ton of damage and with good placement can decimate entire crowds. Spike Trap's very last rune upgrade lets you drop 3 traps simultaneously in an angled line perpendicular to your cursor direction.
If you're kiting, you can vertical trap and the mobs will walk into all 3 traps for massive damage. The traps will also slow if you have a weapon with cold damage.

That's actually very good information, I've never had a weapon with cold damage before. So with a cold damage bow, every single skill will slow the target? Do you know what the % on it is by chance, and whether it stacks with other slows?

anyone else flat out refusing to use the smokescreen gimmicks?

I can't imagine getting very far through Hell without smokescreen. Too many monster combinations that just kill you for free without a cc break/invulnerability. It's not like it's the only character ability in the game that makes you invincible for a couple seconds.

lol at "gimmick"
probably the only essential skill for all demon hunters past normal

Dunno, I haven't been using smoke screen in Hell and I don't feel that it's very good with the way I play. I use it for specific bosses only. Otherwise, I find Shadow Power (Gloom) and Tumble (anything) are just better as panic buttons.
It's far from essential, though if I were playing hardcore I'd sure as hell have it.

I don't think anyone would ever play hardcore at inferno level not because if its difficulty but rather the lag issues at certain point(must be online all the time)where we need to CC or kite and one second would cost us our lives.
Back on topic,I am a 26 demon hunter. Is hungering arrow with puncturing rune better than entangling shot with chain gang. I have been using entangling shot with chain gang ever since i gotten it.But i heard that hungering arrow with puncturing rune give better dps and higher aoe dmg? Is that true?

imo Entangling Shot is the best all-around primary shot. Most builds aren't going to be too concerned about dps, just be happy with the fact that your primary shot slows and saves you a CC slot in your bar. Shock Collar is also a really good rune if you're relying on Multishot spam, but Chain Gang is maybe better for Chakram/Ball Lightning since it keeps stuff bunched together longer. Entangling Shot + AoE skill + Impale (Impact) will deal with basically anything the game can throw at you and leave 3 slots for you to mess with.
Keep in mind you really do need some kind of high single target damage/stun though, be it Rapid Fire or Impale or something else. Otherwise you're going to be really miserable against certain rare packs.

weird because im on inferno... although only on act 1 so not entirely sure how "necessary" it becomes
and the "gimmick" part i was referring to was talking about builds centered around maxing discipline and disc generation to maintain near constant smokescreen

i've been mostly using vault because it lets me move around faster and i am too lazy to switch skills just to travel
you do absolutely need SS for some bosses and unique packs
