Fuck made long post and tl app must have eaten it.
Mesmer thoughts so far PvE and WvW
I'm level 20 now on my Mesmer alt that will probably be my main now as I find I like what Mesmer is all about using illusions to confuse, teleportation and invisibility basically trickery is the name of the game. I like my elementalist(46) but Mesmer fits my style of play more.
So right now I'm undecided between GS and staff I don't think they complement each other well enough to drop one for sword/pistol.
I think GS is good for keeping a lot of illusions up that attack quickly staff illusions seem a but slower to me getting started. Thing with staff is I find chaos armor to be really good and chaos storm also. Would staff be better suited for condition build?
I'll have to look at scepter again I didn't like scepter to much. I like sword focus in WvW iWarden I think does more damage than iDuelist but its easy to avoid warden. I can get warden on top of castle walls and GS let's me get 2 illusion up there to attack.
I'll need to play with sword/focus paired with sword/pistol see how that works in WvW. Only reason I am tempted to run staff is for the chaos armor and storm. I think signet of domination is a must with staff.
Utility I have blink, summon illusions, and decoy. I tried veil but not sure about that I think decoy makes veil overkill. Feedback is good when it's time to siege to help control the annoying arrow spam but I don't find it that useful other wise.
I think I will grab portal next but not sure how to apply it in WvW.
Digital sales just re-opened, damn I'm so happy .. only took like 2 weeks or smth ffs.
Can't wait to try something lol. Can some necro please tell me if the class is mobile? I'm really liking some necro action but it would be awesome if it's mobile and capable of good kiting.

It's not that mobile. It's more of a stand there and tank tons of damage kind of hero.

Here is a decent necro spvp guide to get an idea of some of the most popular build styles:
Thanks I didnt see the video but I have been looking at that guide. After messing around in the Mist I think Sword/Pistol and Staff is really good. 20/30/0/10/10 is the trait line I tried out I think I might like that. Have to do more testing.
Right 5vs5 is definitely more enjoyable for me at least thanks for the recommendation, played my first tournament and won right away.
Went in with my 1h/Torch all out damage Guardian build and was expecting it to fail horribly but mostly had hard time when two thieves were on me. And I need to come up with some kind of slow/immobilize, maybe from 2nd weapon set.
Latest Elementalist Video for those interested. Enjoy
OK that skill 5 lightning flash trick is sweeet as hell never thought about that. You like scepter dagger play more than D/D
Yes it's a nifty little trick isn't it. D/D is probably slightly better for 1v1s, but the scepter can put out some strong AoE burst for teamfights. Depends on what your team needs really.
Here is what I played around with this weekend (not terribly much) on my mesmer in spvp. I forget which runes I was using but there are a few ways to go there anyway. Obviously the main idea is dealing damage with phantasms, and after some dps testing this seemed like the best amulet for increasing the iDuelist's damage (counting the bleed stacks), so I went with it. You need some durability from somewhere as a mesmer and I like the inspiration traits so that's where I decided to get it. In the games I played I felt like I did plenty of damage and lived forever, but it wasn't terribly extensive testing, maybe a half-dozen games or so.
Another possibility is dropping to 15 dueling and 25 inspiration and picking up 15 chaos for illusionary membrane, which would give constant protection if you are standing next to one of your illusions, but I am not sure how good that actually is. There are also a few options for the 20 duelist trait; either the pistol or sword mastery or deceptive evasion. 9 second cd on iDuelist is really nice though (and yes it's 9 seconds even though the game displays 12 on the tooltip), and pistol mastery also helps make sure you won't start a fight without your pistol stun available.
Mainly your goal in fights is to start off with sword/pistol out, burst your target, and then you swap to staff and buy time for cooldowns/control space until you can burst again. Conveniently, 3 of your 4 non-autoattack skills in sword/pistol have cooldowns of 9-10 seconds (and the fourth is your stun which is 20 seconds), so they'll all be up when you can swap back.

Thanks for posting the video and build. I spent all day yesterday trying out thief builds, trying to find something with high mobility and damage, but just couldn't find/figure out something I really enjoyed. This build looks exactly like a play style I'll love.
*edit* also, what was the music used? particularly the second song, though the first one was fun too.
lol wow a complete stranger offered to buy my level 40 profession book for me... for free. I told him no though. I couldn't take a good person's money. Nice to know there are good people on my server.
So I decided to give it a shot against my better judgement due to the postive feedback here.
But I need to ask for any experienced ranger, what difference does the wolf/bear/leopard as your companion make? Can you switch later? does it stick you to a specific playstyle?

In solo PvE I run double bears because they have incredible HP and will almost never die if you switch them around. In group PvE and dungeons I like the jungle stalker a lot because it gives Might.
For PvP I run Black Widow spider and Pink Moa, but there are many many other combinations based on your playstyle.
I haven't played my ranger in a while, but I sometimes felt that the pet F2 skill is pretty laggy. That's the only complaint I have about the class.
