Its probably because it would be too easy otherwise, you'd move up, find aliens and kill them all since they aren't in cover, before it's their turn. By letting them move immediately (but not able to attack I think), they will at least get into cover and a proper "fight" will start. well maybe those alien jerks should stay in cover like normal people

By the way, aliens only get the free move if they see you. So with a battle scanner + rocket launcher, you can nuke a whole squad while they're roaming.

Hit a Terror Mission on Classic with 3 cyberdiscs + drones and 4 cryssalids at the same time (and of course zombies). I have never realize how kiting in TBS can be that hard before. Luckily, I only lose one of the squad to Cyberdisc (thank you for killing her before the Cryssalid got to her).
The worst part about Cyberdiscs is that they always fly, so they always get a cover + high ground bonuses all the time. Sometimes it just so damn hard to hit them.
Also, lost a lot soldiers left and right. I guess this save is doom now.

Only played for 30 minutes or so and I allready feel like this game has very little in common with the original. It's been heavily ADHD-ified

Well to be fair, your probably still in the tutorial for 1st hour preety much, the game opens up after that, and after the 1st 2 or 3 missions.

Will you do a WTF on XCOM?
Not that I need it or anything to make up my mind of buying this game or not cause I will. It would just be fun to watch.

Thank you TL for letting me know about another awesome game. I played Anno 2070 for awhile without regrets due to a post here, and Dota 2 has replaced SCII for me. I will beat this game on classic difficulty or not beat it at all.

Oh yes, HyperWTF please with a terror mission on a harder difficulty!
I played another mission on the old X-com again today, an alien base mission where i lost 8 of my 14 soldiers on highest difficulty. Recruited 8 new soldiers and save&quit. Losing half of my squad every mission is depressing when i even take the time to name all of them. I use LoL champion names and i basically ran through all AD carrys and half of the top laners in just 9 missions. Can't wait to finally try the new X-Com tomorrow when it finally comes out in EU, hope i'm not too disappointed.

Finish the first section of the game (from three), now that enemy starts to have psionic this is going to be really rough. Jump into a ufo landing (just a small one), so I decided to send low ranking soldiers. Floaters and mutons are not problem, but damn that critical shot in the face took out Gordon "Crowbar" Freeman, the second highest ranking assault I had, before I could kill them. Then, 2 sectoid commanders show up. First turn, they advance toward my squad and proceed to eat one of my rocket (which still not killed them). However, all other shots missed them. Then the next turn, they mind flayed and MC my second best Support (I sat out the best one) and proceed to panic all members of the squad. My squaddie heavy moved toward scouting floater and got shot to death. The next turn, they MC another guy (which I named him LGIM "The King" MVP ) and proceed to use the previous MC'ed to kill my sniper (which has quite a high rank) after he took out the floater. So I have to play high and seek by sprinting away from my squad and wait until MC'ed effect wore off. Luckily, I did not have any grenade with them or else they would be forced to commit suicide before MC ended. But yeah, another rocket took one of them out and a last ditch of rush effort on their face took the last one out. So I lost two of my second best in that class, and one of a squadie in 4 turns.

I have a very odd favor to ask. My XCOM has decided to bug out in a pretty bizarre way. The entire interface has moved off-screen, to the left. I can see my base, and the right-hand edge of the interface poking out of the left of my screen, but I can only navigate the menus by keyboard input. I would really, really appreciate if someone could take a screenshot of the in-base ESC menu, so I can save and exit my game. It's Ironman and I don't want to lose it!

Ran into my first cyberdisc on my last mission yesterday, now I'm scared of scanning for threats I'm just playing on normal and those are still ridiculous, the cyberdisk only got one attack off before I was able to take it down (with my whole 6 man squad focusing it), and it almost killed two of my guys in one shot (one was left at 1 hp).
I'm really surprised how challanging the game feels even though I'm playing normal and I have good gear... it feels like a new alien is introduced every single mission and while they are no problem alone, I could see my whole team getting wiped if I have to deal with mutons and cyberdisks at the same time.
God I wish I had enough alloys to reseach Titan armor...

I must say I really hate the PC interface in this game. It was barely changed from console version. They just exchanged console buttons for keys on keyboard and completely ignored how PC interface should be done (based on mouse). I find myself fighting the game and interface more then the aliens.

There are ways to improve how well the controls work on PC. You can increase the mouse scroll speed in the menu (the default is pretty low). There is a guide somewhere for how to reduce input lag as well. There are also a lot of keyboard shortcuts that don't exist on console that should be helpful. Look through the menu and try to start using the keyboard more and things will get less frustrating.

is there anyway to get the camera system to default to the level your characters are on
so fn annoying having to scroll down everytime i want to use one of my guys

Is there an FPS fix for this game yet?
Getting about 8 FPS. System is an OC'd i5-2500k with 7970.

I have to reload the game after a couple actions. In the beginning I get a normal framerate but after awhile the game just comes to a complete standstill. And minimum FPS is the only FPS that matters, so yeah 8.
EDIT: Also a ton of audio popping and stuttering. It eventually gets so bad there is no audio at all.
|
That may be a localized problem then, because I have played for many hours on my machine (i5-2500k @ 4.3, 560 Ti) on high graphics settings without any slowdowns, standstills or audio issues.

Hey guys, I'm thinking about buying this game after seeing some streams and playing the demo. Just wanted to find out everyone's opinion on the multi-player mode. Is it any good? Could you see it maintaining an active player base?
