Unfortunately, the ordinary people/casuals and those who don't read forums much, won't know about this shit and will still give Blizz tons of sale.

I agree with the guy who mentioned that maybe we could get in contact with Sonic and offer to gather money to pay for his license fee. That would be great.

Yeah, because in most places copyright lasts 70 years after the death of the author(s) (...or forever and a day) and is ridiculously broad in what it covers. No, it doesn't make sense in my opinion but that's the world we live in...

I am also curious if the law suit is really going to be employed against afreeca and if they do on what basis are they suing afreeca for ? Individuals Playing broodwar a 14 year old game on afreeca is copyright infringement ? Companies can claim copyright infringement if you stream their games, yeah. Nobody actually does this, generally. But that's the easiest claim to get things taken down with. Even if the legal waters are muddy, the threat of lawsuit is good enough to get most websites to comply.

... Me neither. EDIT: If Mike Morhaime lives up to his tweets I'll partially retract the above statement. I still think there's loads of douchebags at Blizz, but in this case it might've only been Blizzard Korea who fucked up big time. Of course sonic isn't completely blameless either, but the fact that Blizzard goes after a small tournament in a relatively small niche is absolutely disgusting, regardless of the circumstances. Even more so when they're stopping the finals of the tournament in question.

As for the whole issue, i think Blizzard's korean department took the rules a bit more strictly or just wanted to be an overall dickhead Would be cool if you could stop this blizzard hate train. Tbh that's probably exactly what it was. Blizzard Korea just abiding by the guidelines set, SSL not contacting them for licensing issues, Mike Morhaime learning about it and reaching out to get it fixed.

Hmm interesting ...how about this ? What if we are the owners of the game and that I mean purchase broodwar original copy and decided to stream it online ? I bought the game for the purpose of enjoying it and also as a legal owner of the game copy that I purchase . Do I have not the right to show my enjoyment to other users ?. Can that also constitute CI ?

I just don't hope that Blizzard will do anything for BW, because I know I would just get dissapointed. They're threatening to stop the streaming of Brood War on Afreeca. Have they ever threatened Twitch to stop the streaming of StarCraft 2? StarCraft 2 is making more money from ad revenue than Brood War is, and it's still only Brood War they're going after. In StarCraft 2, you don't have to pay Blizzard anything to run a tournament as long as the prize pool is less than or equal to $5000. But when it comes to Brood War, they're going after the SSL, which, I am quite certain, does not have a prize pool of more than $5000 (lol). Tbh that's probably exactly what it was. Blizzard Korea just abiding by the guidelines set, SSL not contacting them for licensing issues, Mike Morhaime learning about it and reaching out to get it fixed. I hope this is the case. But even if it is, why are the rules so much stricter for Brood War than they are for StarCraft 2? It makes no sense.
