Many Russians are justifiably not happy with the campaign plot points and are now on a mission to discredit the game in any way possible. They are firing request's at Relic's server to try and overwhelm it and bring it down. The angry protestors are adding their own "user reviews" to Metacritic taking the Metacritic User Review score down to 2. http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/company-of-heroes-2/user-reviews
Set in the background of this Relic is in a nasty dispute with a little know clan consisting of guys who can barely speak english. These guys think "fucking" and "faggotry" are real adjectives because its what they hear all the time. Its their "gamer" exposure to the English language. Jeremy from pure pwnage would be proud.
Why is Relic starting an "internet war" with a bunch of 17 year olds who can barely speak english?
I would call this a "pr nightmare" except for the fact that nobody cares because no one is playing the game.
What's wrong with the story?
Haven't actually played the game at all since beta eventhough I preordered...
Watched the first mission on youtube, wish I hadn't... not even ten minutes in and you have things like Soviet troops being sent into battle unarmed, sadistic commissars randomly shooting friendly soldiers in the back, executing unarmed German soldiers, the good old 'innocent war hero stuck in a gulag for ten years' story, but the war hero's name is impossible for a Russian (Lev Abramovich Isakovich), Russian words completely misspellt in the subtitles, the list goes on and on. If I were Russian I would be livid, sloppy writing on Relic's behalf has left this game in a pool of obscenely overblown stereotypes that feed off of each and make anyone that knows what went on on the eastern front more and more pissed off. What was Relic thinking?

After multiple failed attempts to create an appropiate answer: just no. The video is just some guy (propably russian) whos national pride got hurt, who might have some valid points but fails to present them in a serious manner. You mistake indepth for "video of lenght which throws a lot of numbers and 'facts', while making sometimes weird logical jumps". Russia has some serious problems when it comes to its own history, especially the time of Stalinism. Yes, the nazis where evil, the holocaust showed a unique grade of determination but the number of people who died under the regim of stalin shouldnt become forogtten. Even though the stalinism doesnt showed that grade of determination, it was still evil and cruel. Together with Stalins own plans for war it clearly declassifies the UDSSR as a hero of WW2. Had the UDSSR invaded nazi-germany first and won, there wouldnt be that big of a difference in terms of casualtys. While Relic might got historical facts wrong, this should not be abused to glorify the reign of Stalin. Let us all thank the UDSSR for helping to defeat the third Reich, but never forget that Stalin was a vilian too.
EDIT: Maybe it is a good video... I feel tempted to buy CoH2 and play the campaign just to write an detailed essay to point out why the video sucks and the author is "buthurt".
the WW2 history buff i know states that the CoH2 campaign story is way off base and merely highlights many pop culture misconceptions of the events on the eastern front.
and for the record he is not russian so the "butthurt" theory does not work.
the "its just a game" defense loses credibility when Relic/Sega did stuff like this.
So they can not on 1 hand say "guys the whole game is really just a fun, humourous light hearted account of WW2". and then on the other hand advertise the game as though its an authentic simulation of WW2.
Relic really screwed up large with the single player campaign of CoH2. They should've considered not doing a campaign at all.

I did not say "Relic is right" since I have to admit that I havent played the game. Therefore I cant express in detail where exactly he failed, but can see when someone shows the typical signs of wrong historical understanding. I dont study history, but history is one of my hobbies which I take very serious sometimes, I also have a close friend that studies military history, as soon as you try to glorify Stalin or the UDSSR he would happily hand you a mulitple page essay why you are way off. I just said that the linked video isnt good criticism at all, as soon as someone potraits the UDSSR as some kind of hero of WW2 and/or Stalin as a glorious leader, he immediatly left the bounds of reality. Stalin was the second biggest villian in WW2, Hitler was just the first who attacked and Stalin wasnt so stupid to document exaktly how many people he killed, thats why Stalin could become a "Savior" in the first place. As soon as you act like the UDSSR and Stalin where big altruistic heros, you lost all your historical credibility. Hitler-Stalin Pact / Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact anyone?
Also for the record: Channel description is in russian, website is .ru, so naturallyI assumed that he is russian/citizin of a state thats in former UDSSR-territory which happens to have a big misunderstanding from the time of Stalinism, as long as they are still under the influence of modern russia. If this isnt the case, I was wrong about the intention why the creator made this video, but its still far away from good.
EDIT: lets put it this way: If all the criticism regarding relic and COH2 is true, the video ameks an equal mistake, just in the opposite direction.
I don't think you understand the point... Imagine a Russian game studio made a game about the Vietnam war, you take control of the US forces and the whole game from then on is about drugs and the rape and murder of civilians, the whole game just about killing inocent people while on drugs. Oh and the only person who tried to stop it is a homeless veteran, shit on by society bla bla bla, the vietcong were the good guys, if it wasn't for the USSR and China many more people would have been raped and killed. Yep the whole game like that. Yes, stuff like this did go on in Vietnam, was it the only thing going on? Any sane person know the answer to that. Now how big would the shitstorm be in America if a game like this was ever made?

You do realize that the Russian army did send soldiers unarmed into battle, telling them to take up the weapon of fallen comrades? You do realize that some commanders may have killed friendies just to coerce people going into battle unarmed? You do realize that killing POWs, while an attrocity, happened quite a lot on both sides?
The Second World War was terrible and cruel, especially on the eastern front.
Two men one rifle only happend in the movies like 'enemy at the gates'. Not in real life...thats why 'bend the truth' movies/games should be called out because as you have shown people actually belive these things happend

proof? btw russian propaganda changed alot what really happened while the war was going on and even years after....both sides did horrible inuhman things, end of story....
At the time of Stalingrad the USSR had an abundance of Mosin-Nagant rifles, what they lacked was ammunition but even then very few soldiers had less than 2 clips. Two men one rifle actualy happend in Russia, but it was the first world war. Also most accounts about 'human waves' and soldiers without guns came from the German soldiers during and after the war

you make a valid point about WW1. the problem is that Relic has attempted to advertise that CoH2 would be some kind of accurate simulation of WW2.. not WW1.

the problem is Relic based a couple of hokey game mechanics around those inhumane things for the Russians. And, did not do so for the Allies or the Germans or the Finns etc etc. Relic's portrayal of WW2 is woefully inaccurate.
The problem is most of these myths about the USSR comes from Nazi propaganda and German soldiers during the war ect. Exept Germany and the rest of NATO didn't feel the need to debunk these myths after the war because of something called the cold war... The CoH community won't play mirror matchups because it didn't happen in 'history' and Relic gives them this?
thank the baby jesus that Gearbox now owns the IP for Homeworld. Relic bares little resemblance to the studio that made the RTS greats Homeworld and Company of Heroes 1.
Amongst Canadian males over 40 there is a definite anti-USSR bias. How old is Quinn Duffy?

maybe all the reports wrote by Manstein, Guderian, Grossman and Beevor?
yeah, sometimes 6 guys were sended with 3 rifles, knives and 1 sword, but it was at midnight in commando operation, not in the same way that enemy at the gates .
at this point it does not matter whether or not a single Russian citizen has a grievance 'in fact". all that matters is what they perceive. at this point, perception is reality.
It is Relic's responsibility , when making a campaign, to not offend its player base. Relic screwed up big time. They rolled the dice and it came up snake eyes.
Victory Games recently side stepped any anger ( again .. whether justified or not is immaterial ) by making GLA an "all nations" faction. Relic did not do enough "side stepping".
Relic promised a "real" campaign. Without backing it up with enough real due diligence.
