The source material for this movie came out a fair amount of time before the Source Code movie.
I enjoyed the movie a fair amount. It had some nice sequences with good effects and some nice humor thrown in. I actually didn't mind the ending so much besides it being cliche happy ending. From what I read up on the novel ending it didn't impress me either and for a movie it wouldn't have worked as well.
I wonder if the novel is getting a sequel with how it ended?

Eh, more like Groundhog Day meets Starship Troopers meets Eysium. The mimics in the movie reminds me of those things in The Matrix and the enemy in the first Crysis game. Also, Edge of Tomorrow is based off the Japanese novel, "All You Need is Kill", which I think is a badass title.
I guess the ending makes sense if the Omega is different from the Alphas...unlike the Alphas, the Omega appears to be centrally unbound to time, if in an instinctual manner. Liked the novel ending better, though.
Alternatively, "stealing" alien power literally means stealing their power. Which means that the Alpha Cage hijacked way back in the beginning died for real in the first loop.
Yeah the ending only makes sense if the Omega is somehow outside of time (which is entirely plausible if it manipulates time) and just sort of plugged into "our" timeline, otherwise it would have come back to life on the last day.
Overall I really liked it, nothing really raised a critical objection (which is quite rare for this kind of movie), and it was a really enjoyable ride. Not too much thinking involved other than making sense how what I mention in the spoiler could work, but that's totally fine. Not too much originality also, but execution is excellent
Also the connection of the whole concept to video games is pretty damn cool.
Finally watched it, I liked it! Acting was great, nothing really detracted from the experience, comedy was good, the only bad point was that the ending felt a bit feel good over what could've been, but probably my favourite movie this year so far.
This was the best action movie I've seen in a few years. I was happily surprised.
The acting was spot-on. The script was good. The plot-holes were mitigated. The action was fun. And I just genuinely cared about what happened to the heroes, a feeling I hadn't experienced due to media in like a year. I hope my opinion wasn't biased due to the fact first movie I'd seen in 3D since avatar haha
Give the Overmind some more time to evolve and gather resources from planets, right now only 2 (known) types of units are under its command. Eventually as the resistance becomes tougher it will evolve more specialized types of soldiers under its command.
When I watched the scene (from first D-Day invasion) where a mimic unborrows from the sand and fucks up an entire squad of marines, I couldn't help but think, "booooom hold position lurker FTW!"
finally get to watch this. I would say that i am entertained by many moments in it but i highly recommend that anyone who actually like the movie go read the source (or just go for the manga they probably have translation).
That highly hollywood-ified story writing/spoonfeeding audience/retardified all the real meats from the source are giant disappointment to me to say the least, many smart reasonings in the original source were buried of course. But again, i am entertained so ya, this movie is at least worthy for a watch.
That perfect ending is especially so hard to stomach considering it is the most critical part of the original.

damn. if they made an SC1 movie it would be mad crazy. dark swarms. Irradiates. hold position lurkers. PLAGUU
Given that Cruise's character killed the Omega and he restarted all the events with the alien now defeated and he absorbed the Omega's blood. Would it be justifiable to assume that he technically can't be killed in the near future as long as he doesn't get a blood transfusion?
I also wonder, assuming he does not get a blood transfusion, would the blood have stayed in him indefinitely, based on the movie lore of course, not the manga. Would his death due to ageing also result in him restarted his life from that helicopter ride again? Thus being able to redo his whole remainder of life from that point onwards again til he dies again to repeat the same process all over?
I understand why they had to go that route for the movie as the manga's ending would be quite difficult to absorb if it all unfolded in a 2 hour movie. So it was a fun alternative for me. I don't mind the deviation much.
I guess for a couple months to years he would be technically 'immortal' because on a biological point of view your body will keep renewing the blood cells so eventually your body will complete a 'blood transfusion' in time (depends on the individual); unless of course the special thing in his blood can somehow remain forever and all of these based on that assumption that he could function the 'reset time' ability without the presence of omega.
which is why the original is so much superior in tying up all loose ends. for the movie people can nitpick out alot of plot holes.

And in the end they would find out that the Overmind in turn is controlled by a nerdy Korean kid

Notice when he killed the Alpha it no longer appeared where he first killed it. I think it is the counter-side of having that ability. When you die for real, you would die back where you first reset from or where you first obtained the power. This is just a guess, but I think if the main character had died without the blood on him, he would have technically died back where he first obtained the power (with the claymore) OR would have never woken up at the airport.
Saw this movie recently and absolutely loved it. It's a shame it didn't do better at the box office despite rave reviews, which honestly shocked me considering it's a manga adaptation, so was expecting it to get bad reviews. I never read the manga, but read the manga spoilers here and I must say I like the movie ending better because I'm a happy ending kind of guy.
It was literally one of the only movies I was looking forward to in the last 5 years because I thought it'd be good. And it was probably the best movie I've seen in the last few years. Stayed engaging and enjoyable from the start to finish. + Show Spoiler +
I didn't necessarily hate / love how it ended. But w/e. Got what I wanted from the other 90% of the movie.
I watched it yesterday because of previous comments. It was a good sci-fi movie. It's not on the level of Dick's novel based movies imo but still good.
