(I apologize mods, I know my 2003 account has been around the site long enough to know better than to post this spam crap here, but please hear me out anyway before appending some red text)
Right now, the infamous GameFAQs is running a Best Game Ever contest (and not for the first time ever). Yeah, I know what you're thinking, it's freaking GameFAQs where people only care about Zelda and Final Fantasy, and they don't even know how to use a computer to play something awesome like StarCraft or Diablo or Minesweeper. Still, the original StarCraft managed to make the cut, along with a small handful of other PC games in a rather intimidating 128 game bracket.
So why does StarCraft need your help? Well, it's on a site where PC games don't usually do so well, and to see it bow out of the contest so early would just be plain depressing, giving its influence on gaming, esports, and bringing a country out of a recession (well, maybe that last part is a stretch). Right now, it's in a close match with Mass Effect 2 (a game that I believe is popular with people half my age, not that there's anything wrong with that), and is down a few hundred votes.
11 years ago (plus some change), StarCraft went up against Halo as a 16 seed (while Halo was a 1 seed given its College Dorm dominance -- bring on the gamer fuel). The StarCraft community bonded together, spammed my C4 scrubby WGT account and everyone else idling in X17, nohunters, and Brood War USA-27, and just barely pushed the game on to the next round. It went on to go deep in the bracket and garner respect from everyone and even generated memes before they were called memes. (If anyone has the "What now Link" with all the carriers blasting toon link, please post it, as google has failed me).
Maybe it can no longer beat the Marios and Zeldas of the world, but it'd be nice to see it get a little further than the second round. As it's so close right now, I think, with a little love, we can push it on to victory.
If you feel like giving it a vote, you can do so here: http://www.gamefaqs.com/features/bge20_vote
If you don't, that's ok, too. I know the imbalance whining is more important.
Oh, and you don't need an account to vote. So you can just click and be on your merry way.
Thanks and I love you guys*. =D Back to lurking!
*No, really.
TLDR: Vote for StarCraft: http://www.gamefaqs.com/features/bge20_vote
