There's so many gimicks in the game that even the best players can lose out on a bad day, which leads to results that defy logic, like Byun and Solar going out in the Ro32, and players like TY, Inno, and Maru going out in the Ro8, when they could have gone all the way to the finals. Player skill just fluctuates too much. Someone can be the best player in the world one week and a mid-tier player the next. SCII in previous years wasn't any less random tbh.

I don't remember Solar, but ByuN losing is exactly how I'd imagine he'd lose. TY losing is exactly how I'd imagine he'd lose. Inno losing is exactly how I'd imagine he'd lose. Basically those 3 upsets in particular happened exactly how I'd have predicted them to happen if I was asked for a scenario in which all 3 could lose out to those particular opponents.

I too have never seen a good player lose a match I expected him to win.

Maru will try to play a standard game against Ryung because he thinks he's better without realizing a standard game emphasizes Ryungs strengths of positioning and strategy.
