I've given up on Ironman. While it was fun to get a few achievements, I enjoy playing more without it
Plus, I've encountered a few hangs in Stellaris as of late so no Ironman for me there

Or the Persia one i don't exactly remember what you Need to do, but starting with Qara, forming Persia and finally going head to head with the Ottomans/Muscovy/Commonwealth (if it forms) and before that the Mamluks and TImurids is pretty challenging. The one starting as Taberastan was pretty fun too

Agree. Switzerlake was def. one of the achievements I had the most fun with.

Today I learned vassals can release nations. I lost a perfectly good province because of that. Though now that I think about it, they might have been forced to do this by the HRE emperor...

From some console tests...
The introduction of the Yuan ideas made it possible to hit 100% administrative efficiency.
Doing this in a real game would be an insane challenge though. Manchu is probably the best candidate for this.

So yeah you can either core or conquer everything twice with HRE AE, which makes vassals fairly useless for conquest inside the HRE unless you are emperor.
Btw HRE Emperor AI sends Demand unlawful territory to vassals of his allies.

419 is that yuan france prussia? Wonder if it's actually doable since there's a time limit to get 66% admin eff with france prussia

Was hoping to get the 'made in japan' achievement but the institution didn't spawn D: Paradox why do you do these things to me?

Pick a lets play from a good player on Youtube. Start the same nation and play the first 20 years or whatever and then compare what they do. (Don't pick a nation that needs year 0 RNG to do well since they will likely do mass restarts.) Then analyse why they did their things instead (some is the year 0 randomness) and learn from that.

That is actualy good advice. Play game, check tooltips and if You dont find answer check the interent. Ask people. Start playing Ironman as as soon as You are comfortable with basic mechanics. Firt few games play with strong countries, countries which type of play is pretty strightforward. Ottomans, France, Spain etc.

I would actually do it different. First game play Ottomans, as this is the easiest country to understand core mechanics IMO, but next game you should go to Brandenburg instead of another large countries. This will really teach you everything you need to know, except for trade/colonizing, and more importantly it offers the challenge that makes EU so great + the reward when your space marines stomp all over everyone 🙂

Decided to try another VH Albania game, as I abandoned my last one on an ancient patch (I wasn't doing too hot anyway). I can do a writeup but really wanted to bask in the glory of my accomplishments.
Religious War in the HRE got triggered by Britain, who had massive Russians and massive Ottomans on their side, some Germans here and there, we got Austria and admittedly rather large Spain. Still, the infantry numbers at the start of the war were 200k vs 400k. + Show Spoiler + The patented strategy of walling Ottomans armies in by capturing a fort, then occupying all their European holdings. Give me a combat-width size deathstack, and I will give you a miracle. Won the war, this is what my Albania looks like not long after. + Show Spoiler + Border gore galore. You guys like?

Is Albania still one of the nations where you have to check what Ottomans do at the start and if it is the wrong thing, restart?

Because I only restarted once I don't really know all the possible ways the early game can go. It changed in 1.21 since I played them last time. Both Ottomans and Venice have a core on your only province now so I imagine the early game is pretty savage most of the time.

Ive had to restart as Albania like 30 times in a row before if ottomans/venice declare war its instant death every time half the game playing as them is just luck

After you get your first 2 alliances I imagine it should be pretty consistent though well as consistent as it gets. You should survive anyhow, I think.

After that yeah, usually takes about 5-6 months though, and sometimes you get instant wars in the first 2 and no way to win those
