did you watch LBJ in every minute of every game?
the only Raptor whose intensity did not go up in the playoffs was Fred Van Vleet. He played like his life was on the line in every Raptor regular season game. Using this standard every Raptor coasted this year.
regarding your "selective" comment, any statistic cited is only a slice of reality. on top of that, the statistics that are the most complete require a large quantity of data to be valid.
the stats you provided also moved the convo forward..imo.
i prefer to combine statistics with personal observations and then add in some logic to come up with my Raptor projections.
Your constant "you can't have a opinion unless you watched every minute" gets tiresome. It is one of the many douchey things you say. Not quite as bad as you "pay attention outcomes" catch phrase you tried but still brutal. Also, apply your same logic to yourself please. Only comment on teams and players you watched every minute of, since that was no one (which we proved early in the thread) STFU. Thanks.
i agree with your point, but I think he was making a concession in that last post.
I feel like we should follow that exercise where before you can respond to someone you have to restate their position and then that person has to agree you have accurately represented their position.

That sounds reasonable, I agree with you that he possibly was, it is just that the reason he conceded a little bit was cause the poster said he watched every minute. Which is impossible standard to hold people too, and one he does not hold himself too. Having some afternoon margaritas and thought I would bluntly state my opinion. =-)

i am not conceding at all. i think LBJ ramps up his intensity about as much as other NBA players in the playoffs. i am willing to make additional observations in this area though due to the other observations made by other posters who probably watch more of the Cavs then i do. So I'll pick some games that lend themselves to coasting next year and check them out.
here is what the guy who developed xRAPM has to say about Isaiah Thomas.
basically, when you pair any member to Boston's roster with IT that player's defense gets worse.
|
lbj 11 points? coasting in the playoffs now??
cle bench really did nothing, 9 points? damn
|
every NBA player has a choice of 2 labels. They are either (a) "coasting" in the regular season (b) "choking" in the playoffs.
For example, Demar Derozan "choked" in the playoffs this year. Last year, LBJ "coasted" during the regular season.
Boston's defense is noticeably better with Isaiah Thomas not playing. Its cool to see new stats like Engelmann's xRAPM be able to pick this up. Any how , nice win by Boston tonight.

The concession was in reference to assessments based on viewing the games.
Out of curiosity, what do you think xRAPM means? I know when Hollinger's original RAPM came out, it seemed like it was a measurement out of how good a player was at his job. So what does xRAPM mean? Preferably not "the best player".

Expected Regularized Adjusted Plus-Minus. Its an enhancement of the Adjusted Plus-Minus by taht economics professor that's been working/consulting for the Cavs for 10 years. Rosenbaum? i think.
|
This is just the Cleveland of the regular season re-emerging for a game. Honestly, the lack of Thomas for Cleveland to force terrible matchups also helps in a 1 game scenario (probably not sustainable, but nothing Boston does is sustainable).

Smart looks really good when he's hitting shots but unfortunately it doesnt happen very often. Cavs in 5.
|
There was already a bit of talk about trading thomas I wonder if it will get louder. Him on Max contract would make it harder to get others.
|
id trade him, too old too short, but i dont think anyone who has what boston wants (a real star) would trade for him, like indiana, unless they know they cant keep george and will flip it for the 1st pick + thomas
|
I feel like every play that went badly for the Cavs in the last 3 minutes starts with the words "J.R. Smith...".

I was just reading Ujiri's bio and apparently Weltman helped get Ujiri his first paid scouting job.

Looks like the Spurs are ready to golf.
|
i guess Durant was also coasting during the regular season

durant 18pts 77%fg before the half

Durant's shooting is actually unfathomable.

When is ESPN going to wake up and bail on Jalen Rose?
