Will he be a one season wonder or future Barca/RM player? i dont think liverpool would sell him. sucks that he's had such a great year first year into his contract. i think his salary is not even like top 25 in the league

Now not saying that is the best all the time as he loses it, but first time passing always is huge in that position, whether its backwards/sidewides or forwards it's very good. Just he sometimes undercooks a pass or something xD So he does things so well by passing first time always, but sometimes loses it because he undercooks a pass. So all I need to do to play in Chelseas midfield is pass first time regardless of where it goes and lose it sometime, whodda thunk..

If the player had a great year but it didn't help making his team win anything, then is he really the most important player of the year? Else Messi would win the Ballon d'Or every year without any debate. De Bruyne hasn't had to shine in a while because his team won the league 3 months ago. I don't like these individual trophies anyway, de Bruyne shined in a brilliant team, Liverpool has had more up and downs with a very regular Salah. Fernandinho has been amazing, but he doesn't score goals so he can never compete for best player. It's all about goal scoring x)

Yea i didn't think so!! | ||

Yea i didn't think so!! What he said, you cant just look at contribution to a winning team (although thats important) and if City had the league wrapped up ages ago and De Bruyne doesnt have to perform, that only reinforces the fact that he hasnt needed to perform at a player of the year level. Ergo he is not at the same level, again there are so many other factors that would lean it to Salah even if you count the fact that City are winning titles. Thats just one th ing. Meanwhile without Salah Liverpool would be rubbing their asses over losing Coutinho still. As far as Messi winning it every year. I would agree except the person beating him has also been contributing at the same level Messi is and he is winning big titles. Its not like Ronaldo is winning it by just being a cog or the most important in a Real Juggernaut, some of the shit he does was just as hard a carry at many points in the season. As much as I dont enjoy admitting it. If Messi didnt win it with neither Real or Barca winning shit then you could say thats wrong. Heck you might even be in with a shout if Real was winning and Ronaldo wasnt breaking some record or the other at the same time. Also regarding non goalscorers winning it. Incorrect. Kante won it last year other winners in the 21st century include Steve G, JT, Mahrez, Hazard. Roy Keane If you are important enough and impressive enough it shows even when you dont win the league. Although admittedly in the absence of some real goals/assists type stats the above cases are rare. If its players like these winning normally because you were what a Kante or even KDB were to a winning team and at the same time there was no one who was not winning but still having a Mo Salah season. Sure if KDB score 15 goals and 15 assists you could make a good case. But he is nowhere near that level of contribution and hard carry that Salah is on a team that is near the top. Salah is sitting on course for a 30+ and 10+ season. Thats insane. What I will say regarding the people I mentioned above is that its very rare they do actually win when their teams or the teams ahead of them have goal scorers on the level that Salah is at the moment.

Its not like Ronaldo is winning it by just being a cog or the most important in a Real Juggernaut, some of the shit he does was just as hard a carry at many points in the season. As much as I dont enjoy admitting it. Everyone was talking about De Bruyne in the first half of the season, they didn't win the league on his back only but he was a big factor. Same can be said about Ronaldo last season, he didn't turn up until February (same this year, strangely :p). Is that enough to be the best of the year? To me consistency makes more sense, because one player cannot do everything at the very top level, so judging a player's season over 10 games max. is not correct imo. If your team doesn't turn up for the CL QF/SF, no matter how good you are, you're not going to win. The whole Madrid team was impressive, and Ronaldo shined the most during these games; the same can be said about De Bruyne. Messi last season was better than Ronaldo overall. I'll even go as far to say as Ronaldo was impressive only for his goalscoring capacity, nothing else (which is still more impressive than all football players, par one). So if you like peak performance and titles, Ronaldo/de Bruyne. If you like consistency at the highest level (which usually still means winning titles regularly), Messi/Salah. You shouldn't apply different standards to how these individual awards are attributed. Edit: true about Kanté. Although you could say that no forward in that Chelsea team was super super impressive (Hazard maybe? but not dominant enough), and the rest of the teams in the EPL performed very inconsistently without any player shining. So it was the opportunity for a non-attacking player to win it.

I am pseudo-mathing the various criteria and giving you what the total would be roughly. Ronaldo won every title possible last year, naturally being the best player on an all conquering team and the best player on a shit team that he hard carried 90 percent of the way. Thats a different award though with more moving parts and things to consider. again if they gave it to Ronaldo for just a league title and Messi winning nothing I would thing that was stupd aswell. Because then there arent enough things weighing on Ronaldos side to tip the scale that way.
