Basically, if you move the mouse past "perfect control" speed, then you'll experience neg accel. If you move the mouse past malfunction speed, then anything can happen. Whether this affects you, of course depends on your gameplay style. In general, RTS players don't need to move the mouse as fast because they play with higher sensitivity. Counter-Strike players tend to play with lower sensitivity, so they need a mouse with higher perfect control. In my experience (having used many of the mice in the test linked above), I need about 1.5m/s perfect control. p.s. Salmosa is optical.

The untweaked version kinda sucks, you *need* to change bottom pads(?) and remove weight. I also use diffrent cord (from MX310) and have it go vertical from the mouse (kinda like pro's have), and it is Totally Awesome! But it depends on your hand size and personal preference (i have small hands), when choosing mouse most important is how well it fits your hand, and it's overal quality. Specs are less important. And don't buy expensive mouses (for gaming) like G9 - it's a waste of money.

I was hwaiting for my perfect time T_T Anyway, chances are just buy something comfy that's in an "older generation" so to say. Wheel Mouse Optical for example. Believe it was mouse of choice for Boxer. At least for a bit.

In FPS games, I got a lot better by using better mice.. but not SC. One thing that does help in SC is if you have a good mouse pad.. I went from shit mouse pad to steel series qck+ and I think it helped me a little. The main issue is the buttons for me, as the Mighty Mouse doesn't have distinct buttons, and the button it has is hard to press repeatedly. It does differentiate between right and left click, but that happens under the mouse structure.

You can lower the DPI for SC:BW, and you will need the high DPI for SC2 (because of the screen resolution increase from 640x480 to let say 1280x1024(standard 19" LCD), so you don't lose precision and keep the same speed). Razer mice are very good, Logitech also. This is true- most of the recommendations are for sc bw. If you want a mouse that will also be good for sc2... well who knows what you'll need.

And about the hand size/mouse thing, I have a 23 cms hand from the palm up to the top of the middle finger, and I use a Gm-03003 Genius (Mini Optical mouse) of 8.5 cms from tail to head... so... comfort > "quality" imho. And BTW, right now I think that it´s better to spend 40 bucks in a great mouse pad instead of a mouse... these things can improve your game greatly (and fix the imprecisions/sliding speed of the mouse btw, awesome thing). This. Edit - Surely this isn't a discussion about strategy?

I'm using QcK+ mousepad. I definately agree that you need a good mousepad over a good mouse.

Both of these problems occur when you move the mouse faster than a given threshold, depending on the sensor. Look here: http://www.esreality.com/?a=longpost&id=1265679&page=21 This article is a really good, or at least an interesting, read for anyone looking to buy a mouse, even if you're not the most hardcore gamer - It showcases some interesting facts, like how current laser technology actually generally gives worse performance than optical, and how newer models aren't always an improvement over older ones. As for my personal pick, I used a MX510 for over 5 years, but sadly the left mousebutton started jamming sometime last year (it would register only roughly 1 in 3 clicks), so I was left looking for a new one. Since I liked my old one a fair bit and I felt it fit my hand pretty well, I looked to buy the exact same mouse again, but sadly it had already been phased out, so I had to settle with the next closest thing, which happend to be the MX518 :p.

RTS: mini optical FPS: IME 3.0 As far as people talking about needing a different mouse for Sc2, that's only if you're planning on playing on a higher resolution. I'm planning on sticking with 640x480, so I'm not worried about sensitivity problems or anything during the transition. Wc3 allows you to set your resolution as well and when I played RoC I used the same resolution and it was fine.
