I use the Apple Wireless Keyboard (typing on it right now, in fact). In both OS X and Windows 7 I've never had it mess up in any way. I've had it for over a semester (somewhere around 5 months, I'd say) now and the original batteries that it came with are actually still in it. So, yeah, I'd say you'll be fine.

Mechanical is definitely the way to go, and I'm very happy with the brown-switches, I couldn't feel them before buying so I was a bit worried, but I definitely made the right choice. as for expensive: yes its expensive especially where I live, but it should last for a very long time. I got mine from keyboardco.com (they stopped selling the blank key ones after I bought mine :x)

Yup. That's my most powerful computer as of now. A laptop. It accompanies my desktop's Microsoft Wireless Optical mouse (soon to be replaced with a new, cheap, ~$10 mouse so I don't have to steal it from my brother all of the time). I really hope I don't break the keyboard from spamming (I've actually been restraining a lot, since it's brand new).
