On that note, someone brought up the cour bit, and I tend to agree. Is it fair to compare a 1 season 2 cour anime to a 1 season 1 cour for instance? That's not to say more cours means a better quality, but the opportunity is there as well. I honestly don't really know how this cour bit would be best taken into account. I mostly asked the question because I recall reading many times in the past that season 2 is much worse than season 1 etc... and some of the reasons provided explain it. As for the anime listed, there are some that I haven't watched yet so can't comment. For Shirayuki, I dunno. I think the second season was extremely close to the first one in terms of quality. The whole show was just fun to watch, and was one of those relaxing warm anime imo. Reminds me of 3 gatsu in an odd way, but with much tamer drama. On November 26 2018 07:31 Harem wrote: help me bully ice kun into finally watching haruhi movie for first time pls what a heathen Stop being a bully! Haruhi movie isn't worth it seeing as the whole anime was too boring, aka I dropped it! edit: Agree on Clannad bit. Haikyuu was mixed, sure. Noragami is rough for me seeing as season 2 did have some highlights. Maybe it's because season 1 was new at the time, but season 2 battles were memorable. SAO second season is the ALO or I guess you're considering GGO then? Ushio to Tora got messed up imo by them altering the final boss' main motive. Why not leave as plain evil so guess I agree with s1 > s2. Kingdom s1 was a set-up as mentioned, can't fault them for it. Magi was a mixed, agree. Log Horizon s1 was for sure better, except for that one episode in season 2 where they actually showed Shiro controlling a party as you would in an MMORPG (or at least how I'd imagine it). Never saw second season of Chihaya, niether any of K-ON, and didn't finish Honey and Clover season 1 either. 3-Gatsu kinda depends tbh. I think season 2 was as good as season 1, probably better in some instances and worse in others. Too much things at once is never a good thing imo. I too have not watched much second season either, unless I really liked the anime.

The I think you don't have to compare a 2 cour s1 with a 1 cour s1 of another show. I think if we would go that far, we would add too many variables because then it also depends on how the story is structured. Is it episodic, short stories, arcs with different length, one long story, entirely character focused? I think going that way doesn't amount to anything. On a different note: I have just watched Cowboy Bebop ep17 and that one was glorious. In general I don't exactly get the hype about the show. It's good, yes, but not a masterpiece in my eyes. Maybe it has to do with it being a pioneer in its genre? Not sure if that's true, just a guess. Anyways, ep17 seriously cracked me up, especially the chase in the end.

This does make it so episodic shows or ones like monogatari with mini-arcs create a weird problem of 13/24 eps with tons of arcs. It could just be there is no clear solution, instead people have to define what criteria they want to use before discussing. Breaking down into continous airing episodes for a season is decent criteria to judge production values of a show, while breaking down into arcs is better for the "story/writing" of a show.\ edit: @Miragee - Cowboy Bepop does get a bit of a cult following that skews how good it is. I think for a lot of people it's their first real experience of "wow anime/cartoons can be mature and serious". Combine with how it borrows heavily from Western culture compared to a lot of other anime, it helps resonate better with Western audiences. It's a great show with a lot of ups and downs. It and Outlaw Star basically created FireFly (it's crazy how much is lifted straight from those 2). Evangelion gets similar kind of hype but from another perspective. They all good shows but cult following tends to overhype stuff. It doesn't help that our current online culture is just hyperbolic hype machine.

In short, it's distilled mecha fanservice. And then there's the SRW OG series, which is the exact same gameplay, but with all original (and arguably cooler) mecha and animations.

It's pretty old but damn was it good. The review was spot on with rating it 12/10 in character department. The sounds and fight montages are one of the best there are. If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend it. https://myanimelist.net/anime/263/Hajime_no_Ippo

Can you describe what kind of game it is? As Spazer said, its a Strategy RPG. Plays sort of similiar to like Fire Emblem, except you have extra gimmicks like Battleships, special abilities/skills to use, and between missions you can spend money to upgrade the performance of your mechs. The game usually goes all out with the actual attack animations as a form of fanservice, to make it really feel like its the stuff from the anime thats actually fighting. And for the past few games, the whole game has been in english, so you can actually follow the big crossover storyline

But then again, Buddy Complex is just like bog standard generic mecha, so its not as weird as Nadia was in X or Cowboy Bebop is in T I'm impressed that you still remember haha. Buddy Complex was a fairly fun show overall. Sure, it wasn't some groundbreaking anime, but let's be fair, how many anime released nowadays can be considered groundbreaking? I personally think it did what it set out to do fairly well, aside from what I believe was the time paradox that they created. The anime quality as far as I remember was decent too, and I think the mech looked alright? To this day, I don't think I've seen any mech that comes close to gundam wing 00 (whatever it was called towards the end of gundam wing) from the small amount of mech anime that I've seen.
