It's made by Blizzard so it'll most likely be a good game but it's similar in name only. The game itself shares nothing more with Starcraft than with any other RTS. Names of stuff might be the same but the function and roles of shit won't be and that's the actual game part. By all means look forward to a new game but this is a starcraft 1 forum, not a general RTS forum. I don't get all the hype.

Of course SC2 shares plenty in common with SC1. Many of the same units with similar roles, same universe, same game pacing, same style of gameplay. SC2 feels very much like SC1, and that has been verified many times over by people who have played it. I mean seriously, are you honestly telling me that a game like DoW2 is just as similar to SC1 as SC2 is? People are excited because SC2 is a sequel that intends to have many of the same competitive greatness that SC1 has, and it's developed by one of the best companies in the industry. And while this is a SC1 forum, it has a SC2 section that we're all posting in right now, so there's plenty to be hyped about.

It's a role in PvT, killing tanks and sucking vs vultures. It's a role in PvP, sucking early game but good vs dragoons and great reinforcing. It's a role in PvZ, dying to everything. You can call a sc2 zealot a zealot but that does not make it the same unit. The unit is defined by its role in the gameplay, not by its name. If you change the gameplay, which they are, then it doesn't matter how many things you give the same name, it's a different game. You can talk about similar units if you like but they're not exclusive to sc1, ultimately it's just another RTS. It'll most likely be a good RTS but I play bw because I like bw. A shiny new RTS with better graphics and a story I'm unfamiliar with holds very little interest to me. Even if it has a unit with the same name as a unit in bw.

I am betting 90% of the people who will be saying BW is better than SC2, won't of even tried the game once, just like what they say about Warcraft 3.

Honestly this is the first time I've seen this viewpoint. What I see most of the time is people complaining about SC2 because "It's more like SC 1.5"

They dont want a new game, they wont welcome a new game, even though it will be a much better game. I am betting 90% of the people who will be saying BW is better than SC2, won't of even tried the game once, just like what they say about Warcraft 3. I have played sc2 actually, although quite a while ago. But yeah, ultimately I'm just not looking for a new game. I'm happy with what I have. All I was trying to say is that it's surprising how much everyone is hyped for this when what they have is pretty decent. If you don't have a good RTS and one is being made then "OMG AWESOME" but if you already have a really good RTS then switching to SC2 will just be more of the same computer gaming fun. The way I see it, there should be more hype regarding the start of a new icc season. When icc stops I stop playing bw (and therefore RTS games) so the start of a new season is a great increase in my gaming enjoyment. Switching from one game to another is a proportionately far smaller increase. The hype only makes sense if you're genuinely discontented with bw.

Going by your logic, patches count as different games too considering that they change stats and roles of units. I think your criteria of "different game" is ridiculously strict. Not everyone who likes SC1 likes it purely for the pro-scene. People also like it because they like the story, or they like the universe, or they like all the units and the style surrounding them. In fact I'd say that the vase majority of SC1 players, including pros, have at least some love for the game universe itself and don't just purely for the competitive scene. Whether you acknowledge it or not, SC2 WILL be seen under the same light as SC1, and that's why many want SC2 to succeed. One of Blizzard's main goals is the spreading of e-sports, and they're going to push it through SC2, so it's better for everybody in the long run if the game succeeds.
