I am betting 90% of the people who will be saying BW is better than SC2, won't of even tried the game once, just like what they say about Warcraft 3. I have played sc2 actually, although quite a while ago. But yeah, ultimately I'm just not looking for a new game. I'm happy with what I have. All I was trying to say is that it's surprising how much everyone is hyped for this when what they have is pretty decent. If you don't have a good RTS and one is being made then "OMG AWESOME" but if you already have a really good RTS then switching to SC2 will just be more of the same computer gaming fun. The way I see it, there should be more hype regarding the start of a new icc season. When icc stops I stop playing bw (and therefore RTS games) so the start of a new season is a great increase in my gaming enjoyment. Switching from one game to another is a proportionately far smaller increase. The hype only makes sense if you're genuinely discontented with bw.
Welcome to the human race KwarK. Change is exciting, invigorating, and holds so much promise. Even though in all likelihood SCI will be a better game then SCII, we wont know until we know, and until then we remain extremely excited. Is that really so hard to understand?

Of course SC2 shares plenty in common with SC1. Many of the same units with similar roles, same universe, same game pacing, same style of gameplay. SC2 feels very much like SC1, and that has been verified many times over by people who have played it. I mean seriously, are you honestly telling me that a game like DoW2 is just as similar to SC1 as SC2 is? People are excited because SC2 is a sequel that intends to have many of the same competitive greatness that SC1 has, and it's developed by one of the best companies in the industry. And while this is a SC1 forum, it has a SC2 section that we're all posting in right now, so there's plenty to be hyped about. A zealot isn't just the word zealot. It's a role in PvT, killing tanks and sucking vs vultures. It's a role in PvP, sucking early game but good vs dragoons and great reinforcing. It's a role in PvZ, dying to everything. You can call a sc2 zealot a zealot but that does not make it the same unit. The unit is defined by its role in the gameplay, not by its name. If you change the gameplay, which they are, then it doesn't matter how many things you give the same name, it's a different game. You can talk about similar units if you like but they're not exclusive to sc1, ultimately it's just another RTS. It'll most likely be a good RTS but I play bw because I like bw. A shiny new RTS with better graphics and a story I'm unfamiliar with holds very little interest to me. Even if it has a unit with the same name as a unit in bw. So if Blizzard replaced a key unit from each race (Zealot/Zergling/Siege tank maybe?) thus changing roles for every matchup, you would say the end result isn't any closer to SC:BW than any other RTS? Honestly this is the first time I've seen this viewpoint. What I see most of the time is people complaining about SC2 because "It's more like SC 1.5" Some RTS will be more or less similar to other RTS. Interface factors, units and buildings and the importance of various styles of management (resource/base/army) vs strategy can make it more or less similar. I said it would be another RTS, I didn't say all RTS are the same distance apart. It'll probably be similar to sc1 in many ways but people shouldn't automatically love it just because they love a game with a similar name.
It'll be a good new game and I'm glad people are looking forward to it. But it's hardly the second coming, if it's as good as starcraft then that represents no change in how good the game you're playing is.

I enjoy SC:BW allot and actually I've been hoping for a delay until I was satisfied with the first game, but a friend of mine told me that SCII for him was a way to be one of the first to actually follow a game that hopefully has potential to be as great as SC have been trough time and enjoyment of competitive play.
Also a "New" but "familiar" game experience/hobby and to be a part of a bigger community and group then any game besides MMORPGS has. Now I see SCII as a (hopefully) a good and competitive game that will bring me entertaining and fun times with friends and the chance to meet other gamers. So I completely switched sides of what I did hope for and wanted. The hype for me is actually fun, I have never "longed" for a game like this since I last can remember and I really hope this is a game that I will remember as one of the greatest games I played when I am old and grumpy living on the moon sipping a bruskie with the Dude.
I see other games as games such as Mass effect and Bioshock and so on, SC and SCII(hopefully) will be more then a game, I think this is why SCII hype is so big right now yet again. It coled of for a while but I think it's back.
SC:BW is not just gaming, it's kinda a lifestyle if you think about it. Maybe a little to heavy for a regular SC:BW player and watcher of VODs and a decent follower of the professional scene.

I'm looking forward to SC2 because I like how bnet2.0 ranking system sounds. Iccup is great and all and I'm glad it's there, but it feels too much like playing russian roulette when being matched up against an opponent. For me most games go like this: either you are way better and the game is boring, or you are way worse and the game is frustrating and/or boring.
I can see the ranking system giving more "good games."

A game is only as good as its community. And the simple fact is that the SC, WC3, CNC3, etc etc communities are all gonna take a brutal pounding once SC2 comes out. Sponsors want their name all over the new game, and they care less about old ones. Its simply the way this works. Out with the old and in with the new.

This just caught my eye. I don't know if this has been confirmed or anything but it appears SC2 already has a DOTA map?? I know this was a hot topic before but it just caught my eyes looking at the bnet 2.0 link Shizuru posted up above.
Check out the screenshot, 2 DOTA games appear under the find custom game feature.

Not to rain on everyone's parade, but technically, the beta is 'ready' to launch this month, which doesn't actually mean that it will, without question, launch this month ... ? Just my 2cents on the topic.

I assume there's a DoTA, but the screenshot doesn't necessarily mean much because a lot of stuff is staged I think. The ladder list shows everyone with like 6,000 games played

I don't believe it.

I'd say it probably will. This was posted on Twitter:
#StarCraft2 beta will be released later this month! #SCUpdate about 4 hours ago from CoTweet edit: We should probably add the Twitter thing into the OP before ArcherOfAiur makes a new thread about it.

It could be to demonstrate that you can create different game modes with the same custom map. (Here, Pick Heros and Random Heros.)

This reminded me of updating my system specs on the bnet site, previous comp was so shitty

Thanks for letting me know, but the bnet is ready for beta and this was put out 2 days ago? We have been waiting on the bnet for over 6 months now and I can assure you that it pretty much does look like that, although the map names could have been easily edited and maps renamed just for show as suggested earlier.

Good to know we have your assurance. What else can you assure us of? How about a release date?
