I don't know if this has been confirmed or anything but it appears SC2 already has a DOTA map?? I know this was a hot topic before but it just caught my eyes looking at the bnet 2.0 link Shizuru posted up above. Check out the screenshot, 2 DOTA games appear under the find custom game feature. This is a mock up. This means that they basically drew a picture of what they want Bnet to look like. Thanks for letting me know, but the bnet is ready for beta and this was put out 2 days ago? We have been waiting on the bnet for over 6 months now and I can assure you that it pretty much does look like that, although the map names could have been easily edited and maps renamed just for show as suggested earlier. Good to know we have your assurance. What else can you assure us of? How about a release date?
Sometime after May 2010 is the closest I can get it!

now i get to listen to other people play the game and tell us all how great it is.
awesome

Great.. I don't have a computer that's capable of playing games here, and i'm gonna be here for at least 6 months. Talk about torture, you spend years waiting for SC2, when it finally "arrives" you won't be able to play it for another 6months.
Oh well, i'll look forward to lots of screens, videos and so on!

I don't have a beta key..............sobs

i'm actually kinda disappointed... CLOSED BETA? 90% of ppl won't get a key anyways, so whats all the hype about?

the music suits well imo.

1. Beta sets a pretty concrete schedule for release. 2. Countless streams + HD VODs daily instead of 1 battle report every 4 months.

Were you expecting open beta? Why would they give out keys for open beta. The hype is because the sooner beta starts, the sooner release comes! And the chance of getting a key is there too.

I kinda agree with Kwark. SC2 is going to kill SC which is a very good game. And it's not obvious SC2 will be just as good let alone improve over SC.
SC2 has prettier graphics, yes, but they look way less good for spectating. And they also made the game way easier and way less of a management game, which is the best thing about SC.
SC was kind of oddly balanced, very asymmetrical using overpowered units like defilers with swarm and consume, high templars with storm and Arbiters with stasis. But SC2 might be imbalanced and then balanced in a way that's boring. Most RTS games play like PvP. It's the typical feel of how an RTS game is played. But that's very very different from the other matchups.
But SC2 needs to happen, of course. If only they made it mechanically demanding like SC and if only you can see when a marine or SCV dies instantly, among dozens of other units, on a low quality youtube stream. I actually think there is improvement over the way SC was balanced. P was too easy. Many units were silly overpowered. Zerg has to rush to defiler. PvZ Zerg has an insane strategical advantage. TvT games can go on 20 minutes after they should have ended. But was SC2 actually designed to be that way? There's only 1 strong SC player on the SC2 team. And only now many other strong players will start to play the game. Many things are already set in stone. Maybe for the right but probably for the wrong.
And yeah, almost all of us won't get into beta. We can just wait and sit there watching other people both figure out the game for us and get ahead skill wise.

Wow I just noticed these threads, been in the MMA threads all day lol!
I was seriously speechless, more from confusion than anything. I just could not believe this was actually going down.
Badass! *crosses fingers to get beta key*

Why do you think so? I'm quiet shure that competitive SC will last at least 2-4 more years. And there will always be amatuer SC even in 20 years (they still play doom 1 today on a high level)!
And if SC2 will be so lame as you propose (and I don't think so) there will be a split like in CS1.6/CSS with professional and "elite" players staying with 1.6 until the end of time while the (greater) "casual" crowd enjoys CSS.

i'm sure the koreans will play whichever game is better for competition and not just auto-switch to sc2
at least unless blizzard gets involved

Me neither, but I'll take solace in the fact that there will be some good footage on youtube.

Honestly, I think this is the perfect time for me to put an end to my SC interest. End of an era so to speak. I hardly ever play video games except for SC anymore and from this point on I feel like the SC scene will slowly suffocate while SC2 to me looks pretty mediocre (same for almost every game I try these days, I just never stopped loving SC for some reason but apart from that I guess my video game interest cooled off o.o)

While this news is very exciting, I'm reserving some of my excitement for the actual official beta launch, since unforeseen difficulties and delays could occur despite Blizzard's best efforts. The possibility may be slim, but it's there.
I also think that even if SC2 can eventually trump SC:BW, it will require years of balancing. My main excitement over the game in general is just over the community expansion. I want to have a fun time with my friends who are too daunted by BW.

holy shit i can't believe this. I need to buy a new computer for sc2 tho.

Not at all. People without beta still get infinite VODs, updates on balancing, analysis and commentary from ballers like Day[9], and most importantly, the sooner beta's released the sooner the game is released. No we don't have to wait a year..Mike clearly said mid-2010 release, so even if there's a major delay no one's waiting a year. They are definitely releasing in 2010, they want it to be the biggest year in the history of Blizzard. that is true, there will be a lot of watching and things to give us non-beta people our "sc2 fix". but it is like porn... Would you rather be the one having sex, or the one watching others have sex? What a stupid comparison. It's like never having had sex your entire life, and then someone comes over and says that for a few months, you will have the opportunity to watch and learn everything about sex, and then, after that, you get to have it too.

I'm wondering one thing about the beta tho. It says that it is ready for release this month. However it might be ready but they might not necessarly release it tho. Any thoughts or am I just paranoid.
