I agree somewhat with this sentiment and I think they need new character developers. Every person we're supposed to like is a sexually ambiguous girl-boy with too much time spent on their hair. Does anybody like characters like this anymore? Give me a Barrett god damnit.
This game looks really promising from the trailers, not gonna lie, plus i heard a lot of good things about it. The one thing about it, though, is that they had this game announced for a while now, but never really had a release date set for it. I'm looking forward to seeing a release date soon. ^^;
Multiplayer or some sort of online mode a possibility for Versus? I personally hope not, but if they do then lets hope it's creative... I usually hate it when single player games get some sort of MP (I.E. the new Assassin's Creed game coming out soon) because everyone wants it, so it's worth their money.
Square Enix is a company mainly known for releasing singe player RPGs such as Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, or Kingdom Hearts. Recently, however, Square Enix have expanded itno different genres with the acquisition of Western development studios such as Eidos. Square Enix is taking another step forward for change and CEO Yoichi Wada says that all games going forward will include multiplayer.
"In all of the games we will be releasing going forward, some kind of multiplayer element will be incorporated one way or another," says Wada.
This choice seems logical for their Western games, but the question is how will this change some of their major upcoming games such as Final Fantasy Versus XIII or Dragon Quest X, among many other titles including their smaller games? Will they simply add some sort of trading component to the game or will we actually get to play with other players? Regardless, Square Enix aren't necessarily going for an MMORPG type approach.
"It is not as if all the [all of our] game creators will become capable of creating MMORPG-type games," he says. "What we will encourage them to do is to incorporate some kind of multiplayer element even in single player games."
OP has been updated with an update to date article. No official word from SE, but I agree with the article that the script/story is done, so now SE will polish up for their showing at the Tokyo Game Show.
I am importing this so fast you have no idea, the instant that it becomes available oh jeez. I already planned to but now even MORESO. Oh jeez, so excited and I should be sleeping, its not even shocking news its what I expected but just seeing a thread about it on TL makes me all the more excite all over again. Wheee FFXIII versus bahybee
Well, surprise surprise... The producer of Versus 13 cannot commit to a 2011 release. It's not surprising at all to me, but I liked to be optimistic that it would before I read this.
I hope so too... but SE is freakin annoying. They made the FF Versus 13 exclusive to the press or those waiting in line at the SE booth. Then they said that they will have a conference in Jan. 2011 regarding the whole FF13 series.
Square Enix will be holding a conference soon in a couple of hours regarding the FF13 series. One of the rumors is that FF Versus 13 is going multi-plat even though they said time and time again that it will stay a PS3 exclusive. Beside that, there is another rumor that they will unveil a new FF game that is a 360 exclusive.
God, like 90% of the OP was focused on how great the graphics are gonna be. I think they need to realize that it takes more than shiny graphics for a game to be successful, it has to be fun too. To be honest I'm not looking forward to the kingdom hearts-esque battle system. I really really miss being able to control all my characters during battle and having a lot of flexible character customization options. You haven't had that in final fantasy since FFX and that came out almost 10 years ago now. I can't say the game won't be fun since virtually nothing has been released so far but I'm definitely going to wait for some reviews before I buy this game.
Hmm I've never been too big a fan of the KH style of combat but will give this a go because I always buy Final Fantasy games even though they've been worse and worse
Please though, more freedom and long straight paths! Buildings and proper shops would be nice too

You can control every character in your party as seen in the latest trailer.

The game is going to be really huge, with world map, vast places, and even a car you can drive because of how much it takes to venture across the areas. Needless to say, Testuya Nomura guaranteed that this is going to be ALOT bigger than what FF13 did.
