It was 3 guys.... space jumping from a shuttle, entering Vulcan's atmosphere, using parachutes to land on a small platform with the purpose of disabling the drill.... because the powerful electrical signal emitted from the drill was disabling communication and transported abilities. The "thing" doesn't mine out entire planets. It makes a simple hole straight down where ever it drills. Which... kind of makes sense for a "drill". The plot of this movie is nowhere near as terrible as these hard core trekies are making it out to be... It has few holes, which is more than we can say for the majority of sci-fi/action movies. yeah sorry I don't remember every detail of every film I saw 3.5 years ago and that you can extrapolate exactly my opinions on a movie and why I have those opinions (because I don't pay attention to films in general obviously!). Oh guess it turns out it was 3 guys and the drill goes to the center of Vulcan and discharged the red matter. "Mine out"/drill to the center of the planet, yeah that was a big fundamental error on my part. You can tell I am a bit negative towards it [the 2009 film], but I didn't "hate" it. It was a generic scifi movie, and actually had some fun parts in it. but yeah, dunno how I feel about the big spoiler in the preview. Either it is a big spoiler OR it's a big troll :/

I'm not one of those crazy Star Trek fans who dress up as a Klingon or in a Star Fleet uniform to go to conventions but I'd consider myself a pretty big fan of the franchise. It's disappointing the same copy and paste action movie formula is being applied to Star Trek of all things. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Really need to see some more footage to feel some hype for it. Most of the trailers these days are based on action scenes. It´s just how the industry works because Trailers don´t have to show story or great dialogs, they want to show cool pictures and nice on-liners. And the Enterprise rising from the the ocean could be a very cool shot.

To me that built me a bunch of hype and I was really excited. This could have been a Riddick movie for all I know.

That last shot with him on the throne was that badass I really want to see what will happen!

I watched it, and while I didn't find it unbearable like some of my hardcore trekkie friends did, I didn't find it good by any means. It had a lot of good looking people, glitter and action. But as a Trek movie, it sucked balls. Just like the next one probably will.

I never watched the original series either but in case you are limited by time and cannot watch the entire Next Generation series, then please, at least watch First Contact to get at least some idea what Star Trek is about. And no, it is not an action comedy where hot people do things.

Time travel to the development of warp?! You're referring to the later ones which... yeah were just kinda side-stories. Watch the first movies and you'll find a lot of the reasons Trekkies aren't too pleased with the first one or what we're seeing for a second movie. The first one with V-ger is a bit strange, but very interesting. The second one, Wrath of Khan though has already been mentioned a lot because its just... its freaking legendary. Khan is imho THE best villain. He plays mindgames and plays out spaceship battles much like 2 chess masters trying to gain better position (hohoho SC2 players too). The story is highly-engaging and incredibly well-put-together. There's romance, there's children, there's sacrifice and there's heartbreak. IMO this is the best Star Trek Movie for now and forever more. A close second would probably be #6 or The Undiscovered Country. Another great movie. 3 4 and 5 were strange but still compelling. I just don't find them as dynamic as 1, 2 and 6 were.
