I agree about Durant though... If Durant went #1 the Sonics would've taken Oden and OKC would be the Atlanta Hawks West.
Presti's had luck but he's undeniably good at his job.

He could have a ZBo turnaround in his career but he's fast running out of admirers in the league.

I see a future of Ben Gordon and not much more for Tyreke (and I feel that's being generous). He's physically gifted but just not very cerebral. If he leaves Sacramento as expected, hopefully he can land in a destination with a coach/situation that can turn him into something productive.

So I'm supposed to be smart and savvy and build a lean mean team, but once I get them I'm supposed to overpay to keep it together? Gimme a break. Gotta pay to win. There is abundant evidence to the contrary. Of the top 10 salaried teams this year I give 2 any chance to win the championship. That's cute. I think it's fair to say that you're talking about the Heat and the Lakers, who are the two odds-on favorites. Paying the luxury tax isn't working out for them? Sure, just being willing to spend money recklessly like the Knicks and Nets have isn't a recipe for success, but I'd certainly prefer an owner like that to a Robert Sarver or Donald Sterling. In the long term, based on how the lottery picks go and how Jeremy Lamb develops, this trade might wind up being good (and they got decent value regardless, considering they probably weren't going to be able to sign Harden). But the fact remains that the Thunder just broke up an NBA Finals team not because they weren't able to afford paying a player, but because they weren't willing to. And somehow you're defending this! l o l

The real question is whether they can change their offense to be less static. They rely on isolation plays more than anyone, and come playoff time it can hurt them once again.

I didn't know that someone getting 31 minutes a game off of the bench is now considered "limited role"?

Great tip: A great way to be less iso is to trade one your top 2 playmakers and ball handlers.

The issue is, and some of this has been echoed for months - the Thunder could have kept Harden and traded Wesrbrook. Either way it's not ideal but no NBA billionaire owner should be complaining about not being able to afford a team because they are in a small market. It's complete bullshit. Even worse picking up Kevin Martin and Jeremy Lamb because "he has potential" (holy shit how many times have we heard this line?) is a sad way to break up a championship level team.

NBA "purists" don't generally believe in perimeter heavy attacks being worthwhile but it killed all of the "post offense, big guys defense" teams and got stomped by another perimeter heavy attack. Would have been interesting to see if this trend continued.

Warriors, Jazz, Others Discussed James Harden October 29 at 10:56am CST By Luke Adams 10:56am: Suns president Lon Babby confirmed to Paul Coro of the Arizona Republic that Phoenix had been engaged with the Thunder in trade talks for Harden, though he says that no proposal ever gained serious traction. "We were engaged in discussions on numerous occasions," Babby said. "We most recently met in person when we played them [on October 19th]. At the end of the day, there wasn’t a deal that was workable for both sides." 8:53am: According to Zach Lowe of Grantland.com, Thunder GM Sam Presti had at least "semi-serious" trade conversations involving James Harden with a number of teams before eventually accepting the Rockets' offer. Lowe says the Warriors, Jazz, Wizards, and Raptors were among the teams that Presti spoke to before sending Harden to Houston. We heard yesterday that the Suns also pursued a trade for Harden. The Thunder were seeking a sure-thing player who was still in the first year or two of his rookie deal, according to Lowe. That means Presti figures to have inquired on players like Klay Thompson, Derrick Favors, Enes Kanter, Bradley Beal, and Jonas Valanciunas. Lowe adds that the Thunder GM likely started the process by reaching out to the Hornets about Anthony Davis, though I imagine that conversation didn't last too long. Here are a few more Harden-related links, as reactions continue to pour in on one of the year's most surprising trades: Berry Tramel of the Oklahoman reports that the Thunder made a last-ditch offer to Harden on Friday, proposing a four-year, $53MM extension. The team gave him a one-hour window to accept it, telling him that if he turned it down, he'd be traded to Houston. According to Tramel's sources, Harden said he needed three days to make a decision, but because the Rockets wanted time to negotiate an extension before Wednesday's deadline, Presti stuck to the one-hour window. The pieces the Thunder acquired for Harden are the same sort of assets the team used to initially build itself into a perennial contender, opines Darnell Mayberry of the Oklahoman. Members of the Spurs, a team the Thunder eliminated from the playoffs earlier this year, were surprised by the deal, as Jeff McDonald of the San Antonio Express-News writes. "It's kind of weird to look at OKC and think of them without their Big Three," Danny Green said. "Things are different. Obviously they're still going to be a good team." http://bleacherreport.com/tb/d8P9r?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=golden-state-warriors
