If you Move your curser along in a straight line from the "click on uganda" text, you will pass by a large country, now that i Congo. next to Congo are two rather small countrys... now theese are Burundi, and more importantly in this context rwanda, renown for Its brutal civil war in the early 90'ties... above rwanda is uganda, and the border between theese 3 countries, congo, rwanda and uganda is where the conflict is strongest. when the rwandan civil war "ended", 2 million Hutus where fleeing into congo and uganda, creating massive disturbance in what was allready an unhealthy region, and leading to the First congo war. theese conflicts have never really been resolved, and millions of people have died in them, and it is only within this chaotic political situation that a man like Kony have been able to create an organisation like the LRA. the regional problems in central afrika will not even remotely be solved by removing Kony, but it is an easy and justifiable goal none the less... what in my mind is more interesting in the Kony 2012 campaign though, is the prospect of having a large public outcry determine political actions on the international scene... now that would really be a revolution...

I'm all for stopping violence in Uganda but spamming twitter and other social media outlets isn't helping anyone. Even people on twitch.tv streams are spamming it.. come on, use your own brain, do your own research and stop depending on your friends and twitter/facebook for your infomation, because it's usually wrong. News flash, tweeting "Kony2012, make a difference" is not making a fucking difference. + Show Spoiler + On March 08 2012 20:25 akalarry wrote: to all the kony hipsters :D Its about raising awareness, I found out about it through my Twitter feed. Also because the guy is not backed up by any government or nation it would be a LOT easier to take him down than to try and "go after" north korea like you claim. The point some people are trying to make in this thread about him having lost ground and not being worthwhile to go after anymore is utterly retarded. Sorry but I can have no respect for an opinion that stupid. You are seriously arguing that a mass murdered and slave master should be let off the hook because he only destroys a fragment of the lives he used to. By that standard any dictator or warlord should be set free once their regime is over. It's clearly not morally or legally acceptable to have that standpoint. When dealing with a dictator/tyrant, the objective is to get rid of him so that we can stop it and then address the problem (situation of the area). If the dictator is already gone or no longer in power, a greater focus is put instead on the problem area. If it's true that Kony has been out of power, it's true that he shouldn't just be forgotten, but I find that looking at the root of the problem in Uganda and making sure people like Kony don't keep coming up, would be a better idea than using most of the resources for his capture.

To use his analogy, you have selected to eat the crap that Kuja is feeding you, instead of forming your own opinion on independent research. Wikipedia provides estimates from various sources as to the current troop strength of the LRA army, and peg it as being between 500 and 3000 people still. Further, if you look at the history of the insurgency it is not uncommon for there to be periods of relative passivity on behalf of the LRA (with the most recent offensive being in late 2008 and early 2009, not that long ago). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lord's_Resistance_Army_insurgency I personally don't know what the current state of the LRA is, and I'm sure additional research would inform me. However, the basis upon which you are disregarding this is so, so incredibly stupid. The lack of mental processing is depressing. For example: the purpose of this movement is to promote the cause OUTSIDE of Africa, creating political pressure in the U.S. and elsewhere so that public policy is directed towards the issue. In order to do this, you spend money OUTSIDE of Africa. The brilliant mind of Kuja has suggested that spending money outside of Africa somehow frustrates this purpose. Think about it... That is just stupid. If that were true, he wouldn't be suggesting to give money to a more reliable charity organization. And yes, a very important point, stressing individual research on the subject to know more about it all.

The problem isn't that you're raising awareness about the problem, but the problem is obviously a real thing that needs to be fixed. The problem is that the awareness you're raising is for a company who is extremely shady, only 31% of the funds they raise go towards actually helping people and the rest is used personally by the 3 people in charge of Invisible Children. They also spend funds supporting the Ugandan army and military forces who are linked to many accusations of rape and looting. Here, have a read of this. http://wilwheaton.tumblr.com/post/18920717928/thedailywhat-on-kony-2012-i-honestly-wanted-to

And why exactly out of the 872389 warlords they choose this one guy? that's actually how I felt about it as well, the production value was honestly really high and felt too commercialised (you even get movie stars to help spreading the words out) But that being said, I do expect one day, twitter and facebook are going to change the way that world works and will be similar to this
