Why should i let tradition go before progress or saving lifes. My family should be thankful that my body does something that directly will benefit humanity for ages to come after my death instead of going into the earth or worse, being burned. I have never understood the "honoring the dead" deal, by burying them, since the greatest thing we should strife for in society is to make it better, and if that can happen after ones death, then that should be ones ultimate goal I can understand the desire some people have with living forever, being frozen, shot into space etc. But i do not support anything but the live forever idea. I don't think selfish needs to get treated by the world in a spesific way after you are dead has any meaning. You are dead, you have done your active part, and i consider it the ultimate egoistical descision too not let humanity expand by not donating your body. In case of religion it is a win-win situation too. If there is no god, then it wouldn't matter no matter how you are treated after death. If there is a god and he is as loving and just as the stories tell. the ultimate way too salvation would be too be a good person, even after death. If he is a vengeful and rule strict god, who put more emphasis on incomprohensible rituals than the simple notion of kindness. Then, well. Fuck him! I think there should be an option in the OP for "neither of the two" though :D :D

I want to be burried, so that flora and fauna can dine upon me, just as I dined upon them during my lifetime... No need for a god or an afterlife, its just a thought that makes me smile =) edit: just saw that somebody already posted the link to this quote...

Neil DeGrasse Tyson set my mind on this issue with this answer here : Cremation has a bad impact on the earth through gas emissions and energy cost, while burial returns you to mother nature. Edit: Nice to see others have seen this quote before and felt inspired by it. One more clip that makes me feel good about being an atheist and know I will one day die and be forgotten :

That's funny how people say "waste of valuable space", like they're living on a tiny island.
