what level are you? it took 40 or 50 levels but the story has suddenly gotten quite good (mesmer too), its the first mmo story that im actually interested in. maybe ive gotten lucky but i havent seen a bug in a story mission yet and im lvl 58.
Latest Elementalist Video for those interested. Enjoy
OK that skill 5 lightning flash trick is sweeet as hell never thought about that. You like scepter dagger play more than D/D
Yes it's a nifty little trick isn't it. D/D is probably slightly better for 1v1s, but the scepter can put out some strong AoE burst for teamfights. Depends on what your team needs really.
Thanks for posting the video and build. I spent all day yesterday trying out thief builds, trying to find something with high mobility and damage, but just couldn't find/figure out something I really enjoyed. This build looks exactly like a play style I'll love.
*edit* also, what was the music used? particularly the second song, though the first one was fun too.
First song is some Street Fighter Remix of Sakura's Theme, forget the exact name. Second song is Din Don Dan Dan Fo from Ragnarok

For now I think it is still free, it will cost gems later on (which is the cash shop currency, though you can buy gems in-game with coin).

Only asking cause me and 3-4 friends have a guild on Isle of Janthir, but we never have enough to do dungeon crawling/WvW stomping so I tossed int he idea that we could reroll to wherever TL GW2 guild is.. but apparently no US-based guild for GW2?
There is a TL guild on Ehmry Bay, the OP has not been updated in some time. If you want an invite post your names here, someone will invite you.

The OP was originally for a guild called Team Legacy, but they removed everything about it later. We have a Team Liquid guild on Ehmry Bay if you want to join. It's not really organized though, and many of our members are on other servers.
Confusion is one of the most underestimated conditions, particularly because it doesn't limit your opponent in any way just everything he does comes with a price (in this case a steep one). When you combine that with Blind you have a mesmer that you can see but rarely damage without being damaged yourself. I'll try it when I'm 80 but on paper it looks very synergetic (albeit not team oriented) and very self sufficient despite a medium survivability.
I was talking with some guild members earlier about saving up karma. I've been told just to save it til you're 80. I'm doing that now, but some guildies are telling me at 80 it really doesn't matter much. Nearly everything good to get requires tokens from exxplorable dungeons or crafting - karma will give you better crap than your questing crap, but hey a polished turd is still a turd. Is that the general opinion of those who are 80 now? I'm 63 at the moment. I know I can spend karma on Cultural Tier 3 or something if I want. Or I can continue to save it for ??? I dunnno.
The curse of winning in mid-tier... getting placed against a server that totally outclasses ours. After losing to Henge twice in a row, we got knocked down to the mid-brackets, where we had a 60%-20%-20% victory over two other servers in the end (started off nearly even like 40-31-29, but our server Blackgate pulled ahead significantly in the end). Now we're getting absolutely stomped by Eredons Terrace like 90-6-4. Can't wait til we get dropped down into the "upper mid-tier" again where WvW is actually fun to play again. Our Blackgate server just is totally outclassed by the top tiers due to organizational (bunch of smaller guilds, none with a major presence) and logistical (time based) issues.
@Otolia: I think you might be better off with either Mirror Images or Decoy instead of Veil. Mirror Images plus either sword 3 or scepter 2 (if you block something) gives you three clones you can shatter right at the start of a fight, or Decoy gives you a bit less opening damage but has some utility (stunbreak + stealth) and also gives you a clone. You have a few traits aimed at shattering illusions but not many illusions that you really want to shatter.
Portal Entre might be interesting with this build because I believe the entrance stays open for 60 seconds or something, so it's basically a perma-blind field if it works like I think it does. This might prove to be better than Feedback for pvp.

It could definetely use some testing, but I'm level 40 at the moment. I just did some theorycrafting, I put all glamour fields (for synergy) but I agree that while reflect and null field are no-brainers the 3rd spot could be changed just like you suggested and having more clones could prove useful. Sometimes less synergy can be traded for something more valuable like utility or clones !
Still sad not to have a lot of good runes and sigils for this kind of build :/

Karma exotics are just as good as crafted exotics and exotics from dungeon tokens, so it's worth saving up. They're 42000 karma each.
Even if you save all your Karma, a full endgame armor set is still 200.000+ Karma - so every point counts if you wanna get it.
But imo the best way is to only replace really, really bad/outdated items - that's usually some acessories. armor/weapons drop enough to wait for drops/quest rewards, but its hella hard to find decent shinies outside of karma traders. Or Jeweling. Don't go "omg this has 2 more power than the old one, have to get", but an accesory here and there amounts to almost nothing in the end. Sometimes, the turd is REALLY polished, and the old turd just stinks. But be careful to not end up swimming in shit.
Probably the best thing to do is "rent" weapons from the trading post, unless prices have gotten less silly in the past few days. Lots of green/blue stuff is listed at basically the vendor sell price, so you can buy it and then when you feel the need to upgrade 10 levels later you can vendor (or salvage, if you want) the equipment so it was nearly free.
I bought stuff occasionally from karma vendors as I leveled and I think it's fine, the total cost of what I bought is far less than 42k karma and I just hit 80 recently. But in retrospect the trading post is a much better deal unless people have stopped selling things for a loss.

Cool, I'm on Blackgate server as well. At the beginning of the game's opening we were actually pretty good at WvWvW... key word though was in the beginning of the game

I looking for a ranged focused non-caster class for PvP. What are my options? Or is it better to play say a thief and be a hybrid who weapon swaps?
Coming from someone who has stopped playing his thief, don't do it. Choose anything but thief. You have to gimp yourself as a thief to have any fun at all. The best builds for thief are literally quickness + pistol whip. Or spamming heartstrike. No joke. It's a broken class from design. It's fun for about an hour roflstomping the living shit out of everything and then you realize you can rip every key off your board except 2 with d/d and still win. And for anyone that says "oh you're fighting bads." or "they aren't popping defensive skills". I can go all stealth utilities. Meaning you pop a defensive then so do i. You run out first. I win. Hunters are good for pvp. Same with engineer if you want to go ranged.
So my plan for items so far is: Salvage whites. Sell blues to vendors. Mix greens in the Mystic Forge. Save yellows and above.
I'm level 50 right now, and so far this plan has been working for me quite well. In the beta, I sold all my items but ended up with excess silver and no crafting disciplines learned. Several days into release, I would end up salvaging all my items, including blues and greens. I got lots of mats, but was worried about my gold supply later in the game, especially as waypoint and repair prices started ramping up as I leveled up. My current plan seems to net me a bit more silver at the expense of a few mats.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a better salvage plan, or is what I have pretty good for the rest of the game?

Fellow Blackgate here. From what I've seen, seems the one world that dominates has multiple guilds with 50+ people all in WvW at the same time. So when one of these guilds attacks a point against a small group of 20 people all in different guilds, a la Blackgate, there's not much we can do about it. I don't even know what the big guilds are on our server. Although, we don't seem to be all that terrible, coming in 2nd when up against those servers, or tonight we're in the lead.
