So far, the last days (as in: The actual very last day) on big kickstarters have had a pretty big rush of money coming in. The fact that the game now broke "most $$$ given by funders" record means that it'll get a new round of publicity as well. I think making it to 5 million is gonna be easy, and 5.5 I'd say about 50/50. Depends if people like me will chip in and give another 10 bucks or so to get the extra stuff.

Don't get me wrong, I pledged 35 bucks once i heard about it, simply because of nostalgia for Wing Commander, but I didn't think a gaming kickstarter could raise over 4 million Dollar. Guess Roberts name still carries weight among the "elder" gamers (20+ basically those who have money to spare )

Guess Roberts name still carries weight among the "elder" gamers (20+ basically those who have money to spare ) Its hard to calculate because in those cases few rich bored people could tip the scale. However i think (simplified) everyone underestimated the numbers of people who want to see 90s come back. Biggest publishers try to pursue "Sims", World of Warcraft sales while big swell of 20+ yo gamers just want to dedicate all their money on something that resembles gaming from years ago, gaming that they still cherish the most. There is always alternative to pop music, because even if most people listen to pop music there is still "big" amount of people who want something else, always is always was. PC gaming nowadays is extremely barren to me, that is also a reason why these projects start, because the marketing based on abundance of products on the market is always succesful. I just hope this won't backfire, so far i am keeping track on 3 projects, 1 is almost finished (Path of Exile), Project Eternity (Baldurs gate revived) and this are other two. So far PoE is doing amazing (great game).

It's just that there is nothing comparable in this genre right now and I have absolutely no clue why. Everybody loves freaking spaceships damnit. There are hundreds of successful sci-fi series and movies out there. Thousands of books, collectibles, toys surrounding space travel. Why the hell is there no game where i can explore the universe, fight in wars, have adventures? I wanna fly my spaceship and upgrade it, I wanna fly from planet to planet where i can trade and where i can do some missions. I mean honestly, there has been no game in nearly a decade where you can do those things and i can't figure out for the life of me why not. The things i wanna do are pretty simple. They didn't have to invent anything groundbreaking. The genre has been there forever and it has been succesful in pretty much every possible form.

Additionally, there are a number of limited-time add-ons as well as some other goodies, so check them out! I'm linking to the kickstarter post to take some load off of the RSI website. It's getting hammered right now, so please be patient! You'll still be able to pledge after this initial crowd-funding is over. If you pledge now though, you'll be able to upgrade your pledge at a later date in case you really want something but don't have all the cash now. There will be a live-stream marathon going until the campaign is over; I'll update with the relevant links when everything goes live!
