I highly highly doubt Sven did not know that ching chong is offensive. That screenshot implies he does. Plus, I've literally never heard ching chong used in a non-derogatory manner.
Even if he didn't know it was offensive, ignorance is no excuse. For example, if someone from Asia goes into an American restaurant, eats, pays, and leaves without leaving a tip it's still considered wrong and they'll get shit for it even though they possibly didn't know.
Sarcasm is also not an excuse. I can't go around calling black people niggers or hispanic people wetbacks and then claim sarcasm as a defense, even if I truly meant to be sarcastic. It's still offensive.
I also don't give a fuck if you, personally, don't find it offensive. It's fucking hilarious when a bunch of middle class white kids on the internet try to tell [insert minority here] that [insert racial slur here] is "not that bad" and they "shouldn't be so sensitive." Just because you don't find it offensive, doesn't mean others feel the same way.
If you really don't find it "that bad," I fucking dare you to go find an Asian person and call them a chink or gook or slant or go "ching chang chong" to their face right now.

There are definitely a large chunk of Asians who live in the US for 20+ years still don't tip. I don't see your point... lol.
Considering I was the only Asian kid in my school for like 9 years, definitely had those terms threw at me. But, never started a fight over it, nor bitched about it to a teacher. Only an issue if they wanted to start something physical, in the cases that did happen to me, it usually ended with a swift kick in the other kid's testicles, or a suplex.

OWB, as I already said, the only thing that comes to my mind when I hear "ching chong" are jokes about how funny chinese language sounds to us, printed in fucking kids magazine I read 10 years ago. Up until today, I never had an idea it could be used as a derogatory term. Someone else from Poland asked today what it means in this topic. Two guys from denmark said that just based on their upbringing, they would never associate this term with something derogatory. It is entirely fucking possible to not now that in other cultures it is considered a derogatory term.
Also "He and other Worlds competitors went through a cultural sensitivity briefing upon their arrival in Taiwan."
It wasn't something just for him because Riot were afraid he'll act toxic, it was a briefing for all foreign contenders and like I said, we have absolutely no idea what was said there.

I specifically meant tourist who don't know. Plus, people who still don't tip despite knowing are still in the wrong; just like how people who know ching chong is derogatory, but still use it are still in the wrong.

Ching Chong is about as derogatory as Americans trying to talk with terrible British accents.

Fair enough, I misunderstood the sensitivity training thing. That said, his toxicity has been brought up in the past and was probably a big reason he received the punishment he did instead of just a fine.

Going to leave this thread with one last example, am tired of being called bad names and as we all know by now, one can not hold a decent discussion when anything about racism is involved, I know this but yet I tried.
Imagine an American dad in a small town always having lived and worked there being forced by his boss to go to Sweden on a business trip to keep making a living, he is also allowed to bring his son with him which he does. He has been brought up in a very traditional home out on a farm and his parents are very strict.
In Sweden the kid say Fuck out loud and his dad overhears him, he decides to, in public punish his kid for saying Fuck by slapping him on his head. Someone in public see this, and decides to call the police. People are outraged, while both the Dad and the son are standing there not understanding what is going on. He is brought into the police station, people are calling him an idiot, ignorant and wants him to go to jail for his horrible conduct. In this situation me personally as a Swede would like to forgive him and teach him not to do this anymore and give him a warning (even though I think it is horrible and ignorant), while some might instead decide to let him go to jail for 3 months to teach him a lesson, think calling the guy a horrible idiot is acceptable, thinking that he should really know better.

Go you! Stand up against racism by returned physical aggression! That'll show them you're not a degenerate! And goo on you for not bitching about it to a teacher, you don't want to give off the impression that Asians are whiny fucks am I right? Maybe you can get double eyelid surgery and bleach your hair and then you can sling around derogatory terms like all those big white guys!

http://na.lolesports.com/articles/challenger-series-update Challenger series update, an owner can only have one challenger and one LCS team (So basically applies to no one ever except for when C9 had three teams), they are looking at making challenger series a round robin tournament like LSPL and auto promotion/auto relegation

The single elimination bracket and Bo1 stuff was really weird. Auto promotion/relegation is certainly interesting.

If they're going to have LSPL format, i'm actually ok with swapping 10th LCS team with 1st Challenger Series team, at least, no bullshit with "we lost to Azingy's Fiddlesticks" or "we got DDOS'ed" will be used.

Except add a sentence in this example where the dad's boss has him go through sensitivity training before the trip so he learns things like "it isn't acceptable to hit your kids in Sweden".
Honestly I could kind of see Sven making a mistake, even though it seemed like he was intentionally antagonizing the kid he met. However, once I learned Riot had them go through sensitivity training it became clear that Svenskeren is just a racist dipshit who deserves his ban.

The fact that Riot eve BOTHERED to hold a seminar about it means it's a sensitive enough issue that players shouldn't even try anything that's remotely a potential borderline case, and that something being a potential borderline case is fair game to be punishable.
Like, the fact that "cultural sensitivity training" even EXISTS as a thing should already send a clear message to say "We take this shit very seriously, don't fuck around with edge cases. What's OK to you or even your country is not OK to everyone else."
If Svenskeren didn't get the message he's either a racist fuck or completely retarded.

If Svenskeren didn't get the message he's either a racist fuck or completely retarded. The opposite could be true, that it was such a non-issue for sven and his entire team that they didn't even come to think of it as offensive at all. From what I'm hearing from all the swedish posters seems more like a major faux pas in humor happened.

Then they're stupid. If Riot didn't think it was a big deal and wasn't going to punish for it, why the fuck would they waste the time and money to hold a seminar?

I'm quite convinced Sven knew it was abit offensive, mostly because of the screenshoot. However alot of people do not know it as offensive and do not draw a parallell to gook or other racial slurs. It is not obvious if you don't come in contact with the cultures where its a problem. I remember there being a child song that used it here in Sweden, the same might be true in denmark. But then again Sven really went out of hes way to show it to some one and make sure he took offens

Maybe the people that called you bad names didnt know you found them bad. Maybe they just meant it as a joke or just something they heard sometime and randomly called you that, maybe they even thought it was a friendly thing to call you. They couldnt possibly know it was bad or that you would find it bad. They dont know you, dont know your culture or where youre from.
So you have no right to be offended becuase they didnt know you found it bad. So please stop being tired of people calling you bad names, put yourself at bit in our position. Stop being so selfish and sensitive.
