Turns out Weidman DID in fact injure his hand, and his fight with Belfort will be postponed to a 2015 event. However, Johny Hendricks will be making his first title defense in a rematch against Robbie Lawler in the UFC 181 main event.

If he beats Poirier he deserves Swanson/Edgar loser... possibly even winner if he gets a quick KO. Agreed. He'll have his hand full though, for sure. A win would be huge for both guys. Cruz is back! So excited to see him fight. I'll probably cry if he blows out his knee during the fight or something edit: Stephen Thompson has a lot of potential. I'd really like to see him rematch Brown, or get a lower top 10 guy.

A true test would be Frankie Edgar. I think his speed would be hard for Connor to handle and his footwork is definitely on par if not better than Connors. Would be a great fight.

I'm sure Dana will come down on it, but I was totally cool with it and thought it was great strategy. People can call it cheating, and I won't argue, he'll probably be punished, but its a common strategy in all sports to do shit that causes breaks in action. Spill some water on the basketball floor, stay down for an injury timeout in the NFL, etc...its pretty common. He should draw a fine, but I'd say worth it.

Would of liked to see the McGregor Poirier fight last a bit longer. I didn't think McGregor was getting the upper hand of that fight yet leading up to the KO. Edgar would be a pretty tough fight for him, he's not really fought anyone who can move and mix in take-downs like Franky, but I bet they'll probably give him Swanson instead, just for another stand up fight for the fans.

i guess it would've been better to hold this thing in Montreal or Toronto after all. Tom Wright should know, if he is this big expert of canadian sports culture that even without GSP as champ... Montreal is a way better fight town than Toronto.

But I am going to watch every one of his fights regardless the kid can bang. A true test would be Frankie Edgar. Edgar is fighting Cub Swanson later this year on November 22nd in the main event. McGregor is likely to get the winner of Ricardo Lamas vs Dennis Bermudez, especially if Bermudez wins, since he'd be on an 8-fight winning streak. Other than a possible Mendes injury that makes Dana want to put in McGregor as replacement, I see it as Bermudez/Lamas. All in all, I thought UFC 178 was a solid card. We had Dominick Cruz and Cat Zingano make some strong return fights, an awesome fight in Tim Kennedy vs Yoel Romero that was unfortunately marred by a couple of controversies, Alvarez making his long-awaited UFC debut, and Mighty Mouse still staying active. Props to Johnson for fighting incredibly often. Of course, champions probably don't like to be injured and/or do it on purpose, but Mighty Mouse has always managed to stay relatively healthy and fight often. Edit: Oh, and apparently, Cruz will be fighting T.J. Dillashaw for the belt in his next fight, probably in 2015. Edit 2: Zingano will be fighting Ronda Rousey for the belt on UFC 182, alongside Jones vs Cormier.

He should of done what Herb Dean did a few weeks ago to a guy(forgot who) who didn't want to stand up when his opponent backed off to let him up. Herb just put his hands in the air, saying he'll wave off the fight if you don't stand up. Now I feel bad for Kennedy. Yeah, that was kind of screwy. Everyone at the bar was going nuts, and I remember just screaming "He's not coming out! He's not coming out! The fight's over!" and then he... came back out... AND THEN OH MY GOD, knocked out Tim Kennedy. He may have gotten screwed over bad because that extra 10 seconds is huge to recovering from almost being knocked-out, and Romero had some time for his brain to stop swishing around. The UFC goes all over the place, and you know this, right?

The only Canadian show in 2014 is a UFC Fight Night in Halifax next week. its not a good idea to keep going back to your best source of income several times a year. its better to spread things out. Toronto drew 1.9 million in the September cards for 2013 and 2012. Prolly would've drawn the same. For 300K its better to save your best venue for your biggest events. Montreal would outdraw Toronto. It would've been better for the UFC to put this show in Montreal or Toronto.

I can appreciate some very clever albeit dick tactics, I really can, but this as an individual sport and not a team thing really threw it off even more for me. I'll just always remember this guy as the guy that lost then cheated to win. I've been punched a LOT and that additional 10-20 seconds turned the fight around, he's a cheater and will be forever in my book, he didn't even own up to it he just said he did it on purpose and chilled out and thought about how to win (bullshit though he was dying and he knew it). Cheat all you want in football / other team sports, its almost standard. But I can't be bothered to accept that type of stuff in fighting, extremely dishonorable and just plain lame. Everyone knows he lost that fight, he was saved by the bell then he was saved by cheating. He was praising god after but he really should have been praising that stool and its comfortability. carthy should have said the fights over kennedy wins imo. EDIT: According to Dana White, it was officially twenty-eight seconds. Anybody thinking this situation wasn't bull shit, go ahead and spin around for 30 seconds while looking at the floor, a full 30 seconds, then go ahead and look up and watch the world spin. Now imagine you have to fight, but wait, its cool just sit there for 28 seconds and see how much you actually recover. Obviously he had more recovery time because of the rounds natural recovery but jesus christ that is a solid chunk of time. Just a lame issue.
