At the time I was still a pure caster (before respecing and before MLGS) and had to fight through 6 NPC Invaders to get that Pale Drake Soul. Forlorn, double avelynn butthole twice, mining pick guy twice and an unannounced invader dual wielding some kind of short swords.
Actually in front of this boss I met my first and only hacker, an invisible guy named lucatiel of mirrah who killed me while I couldn't see him :D
Anyway, I don't remember exactly what was the difference between enchented and magic, sorry. I think one has a higher scaling but reduce base damage. I know the MLGS was nerfred to not become physical damage only with one of those infusion. (before you could have it do 100% physical damage). You can try the watcher greatsword, it's pretty good.
I only know that they made it non-buffable (CWM was kinda stupid on that weapon :D) and they may have also lowered attackspeed/made it use more stamina per swing, not sure.
I totally agree with your recommendation tho, Watcher GS is awesome!
So I purchased a spell called 'Dark Orb' for 600 souls, how do I increase its damage? I figured because it had a high intelligence cost, more intelligence would increase it's damage but that doesn't seem to be the case. Is it just a matter of finding better staves or upgrading them?
Dark dmg scales with the LOWER of int and faith. Upgrading your staff increases the scaling coefficient. Based on how high your stats are, there are different "Best" staffs, because some have higher baseline, while other scale better with stats.
Can someone recommend a really good PVP build that's also viable in PVE? I played a sorcerer before and midway through the game, I find it really boring. It would be nice if you could also include item choices.
I tried to browse through some builds but I have no idea if some builds are still viable because they made a quite a few changes over the last year or two.
I'd also be interested in a PvP build or two, but with sorcery I found a guy on youtube called PvPSkillz and he does builds around 150SL up to 210SL but I dunno how valid they are now in SotfS. Mugenmonkey was good for DS1 Prep to die edition but the DS2 section seems completely outdated. I know that generally high health and spell/weapon/shield choices count and armor is well... more of a fashion souls thing rather than actual defense.
My progress: Done with Shrine of Armani, fucking moronic place. With a mixture of magic infused MLGS +4, wisdom staff + GHSA x33, and Lightning shortbow +6 I somehow managed to slug through there, wasting around 350 arrows total on those annoying casters. In retrospect upgrading the Lightning bow might not have been the best idea since they have high lightning resistance instead of a normal bow, but I managed somehow.
ATM I'm prepping to take on the boss of the undead crypt whatever it may be. I got some nice drops here - 2x Blue flame (yay!), black witch robes with nice resistances for their weight, black witch's catalyst, and some hidden items in the walls. But I died 2x and failed to retrieve my body... 75K souls down the drain... fuck. Not sure I want to go past 150SL, maybe to 155. If I decide to go higher I will likely stop around 170/210. I infused MLGS with magic and it worked out overall. now backstabbies deal around 700 dmg opposed to 500 before. I infused one of the blue flame raw, but like someone said before, raw no longer makes the damage pure physical, it just divides it into magic/physical now, still fucking worth it though.
Another thing I noticed, you cannot buff Blue Flame with magic weapon anymore? In the videos I've watched on youtube the dude was buffing a BF with crystal weapon... shame. It can, it just needs a suitable item in your other hand... apparently not a shield

That was never possible in the first place, and it would also be really dumb.
Blue Flame is a catalyst, so the spells cast with it would do no damage if it made only physical damage. It also does mixed damage from the beginning.
MLGS can still be infused to make physical damage only with a magic stone.

Long time ago I think ? Or so I think, perhaps I'm wrong. Or perhaps I mix up with not buffable !
There is no real build for PvP I think, get a good assorted build of spells that have different cast speeds/range/dodge timing Soul flash, homing soul, soul shower, all those useless PvE spells become very useful in PvP. Get a pyro hand, a parry shield, a black witch staff in the left hand, and an old whip, main staff + whatever in the right hand, land some parries into dark fog into anything.
My favorite rings are the ring that gives more attunement slots+2, the +cast speed ring. Get the domino mask if you want/care, the sorcery ring, the buff at the cost of life damage spell and be a glass canon.
This is map-style is so different from DS1, and I'm not sure yet if I like it. Maybe it's just the Forest of Giants, but thus far, it's been really linear, with no intersections between the zones. I unlocked a couple of short cuts, but no branches to other zones that make this feel like a cohesive world.
Then again, I'm still in the Forest of Giants, which is probably supposed to be like a tutorial area, so maybe that'll change.
But god do I hate the max HP decrease! I'm now at what I assume is 50% health and I'm afraid to use an effigy quite yet because I don't know how frequently I can get them.
I read that all the DLC areas are really hard for mages. Can someone elaborate a bit? Are pure spells not viable there? Which weapon could you use as a backup?
I am playing a INT/FTH mage with sorceries and hexes.

Forest of the Giants has some nice shortcuts, but areas don't interlock as they did in the first game.

It's definitely not as cool as DS1 in that you don't have the shortcuts that loop back to the starting zone, but they sort of trade that off by giving you Lordvessel-type bonfire teleportation innately. DS1 was kind of like that too to an extent, where the areas that really branched away from the rest of the map-- the Duke's Archives/Crystal Cave, the Valley of the Giants, Lost Izalith -- all are only accessible after you obtain the Lordvessel.

Thanks
Everyone but bosses are super resistant to most magics. Perhaps sorceries and pyro will still work, but I'd recommend getting a good weapon for a int/fth char, like a watcher or defender greatsword, a dark ruler GS or just any weapon you like =)

There is a ring relatively early in the game that raises your fully hollowed form health from 50 percent to 75. If you don't like being human like I did when I played this ring is a must.

Thanks, I'll have to keep an eye out for that! Just have to get past that darned Dragon Rider... The last giant was rather tame compared to him.
http://9gag.com/gag/a8YVMwp - LMFAO Anyway to take a break from my sorcerer hybrid I started another character who was supposed to be a quality build, but after reading some comments I realised that quality may not be as good of a choice in DkS2 as it was in DkS1, because frankly a lot of things were reworked from DkS1 and a lot weapons changed. The meta at SL150 seems to revolve around Flynn's Ring dickbags who either sunblade their katana or crystal weapon it and 3-shot people. Moreover now, you don't get natural resist to elements as you level up, but have to put points into INT/FTH yourself to get the resists, gimping any non-elemental builds hard.
I dunno how good STR builds or DEX builds are, but it seems they'll eventually run into the same problem as a quality build. So basically, if you want a pure melee build you'll have to go past SL150, even if just for the pure resists. Say 180 or so.

Really? I found the last giant to be much more difficult mostly because he could pretty much 1 shot me at the level I was at so I had little room for error. I'm pretty sure I beat dragonrider first try but if it wasn't it was like 3 or 4 at most.
