I would think that, since the pectorals are all one muscle doesn't it all get worked together for the most part? As far as my (admittedly limited) anatomy and physiology education goes (only a sophomore pre-med) targeting specific parts of a single muscle is broscience. You could always get some CELL TECH and see how that helps you out though.
Gym story time. Wall of text with no impact on anything.
So I decided to go to a different gym on campus today - it was less crowded, and I was already over there. This gym is between the two frat rows that we have here (because one just isn't enough!) and so naturally, I was the only on there who wasn't in a spring rush T-shirt. In fact, I'd just come from auditions for an acting group that I'm a part of here, so I was wearing that shirt. I took my little sisters headphones back to school, so I'm wearing pink ear buds. Since I squat in socks, I'm wearing socks that my dad ruined in the wash, they're pink as well. Basically today I am the anti-bro going in to that gym. I walk in, instantly I swear everyone's watching me. Haven't had this feeling since my first day in the gym when I had NO CLUE what I was doing.
So many guys curling. I didn't even know there were this many types of curls in the world. It's like instead of starting strength, these dudes are doing a program called brocurlz or someshit. Curling with dumbbells, curling with barbells, curling in the smith machine, curling with the EZbar. Reverse curls, concentration curls, curling on the cable machine, curling on the curl machine. Hammer curls, and here's the kicker - there's one platform and set of bumper plates in the whole gym. DUDE HAS 10 POUND BUMPER PLATES ON EITHER SIDE, HE'S CURLING WITH THE OLY BAR. So I go and start my workout. Bench, squats (almost 2 plates here. Gonna have it by the end of the month!) and chinups. Takes maybe half an hour, dude is STILL curling with the oly bar. Been getting that whole "new kid in elementary school" feeling the whole time when the guys look at me, talk to their buddies, then laugh. I finally ask the guy with the oly bar if I can work in, because I need to power clean, and I need to get out of the gym. He says sure, go ahead. What weight you need? Add the 25 pound plates to either side, I start doing power cleans (really good ones, for me at least. All explosive 'n shit). His jaw drops, he doesn't know what they are. I finish, he leaves. Bro's throughout the gym have similar reactions. So much respect from err'body watching.
Makes me want to get into oly lifting. As soon as I'm finished with SS maybe =/.
Edit: Participating in a nutrition study here as well. Got my measurements taken today. Improvements on my posture (I chalk it up to deadlifts) have actually given me ANOTHER INCH. I'm 6'5, 166 lbs now. Do Not Want. (195.6cm, 74.6 kg) UGH.

Correctly executed bench and press will work "upper pecs" e.g. clavicular head of pecs via flexion

curling in the smith machine,
The shit? I can see reasons for curling about anywhere but the smith machine blows my mind.

But the meat you're eating is going to be lower quality which you have to supplement with fish oil to balance it. And the thing with most meat these days is that suppliers cut off the fat in it so you're mostly only left with muscle meat. When people go paleo the real benefits from it really come out when you add higher quality food. Such as grass fed beef, pasture meat, organ meats, pastured eggs, wild caught fish, etc which are actually all quite expensive. Fish being your cheapest option.

A friend of mine does that too. He says he does because the fixed bar path stops him from swinging his body, thus "isolating the bicep".
We're working on the bulk. I'll let ya'll know how that goes.

Also, I didn't think you were supposed to eat potatoes on paleo? Any veggie that needs to be cooked to eat is off the list I thought. But eh, I'm no expert, o.o;

it is, but low quality meats are still better than gluten grains. Potatoes arent paleo but u can still cook stuff like sweet potatoes, brocolli, etc.
im going to buy as much quality ground beef/pork as i can in the next little while b4 my income stabilizes and continue eating at least 4k cal a day. steaks r too expensive now (not to mention im fucking bad at cooking them lol T_T) Ive also found that adding spoonfuls of coconut oil or ghee to my meals is excellent for adding calories, since i cant drink milk its a decent alternative

yeah im in college so I cant afford free range grass fed meats and wild caught fish but I take fish oil and eat lots of meat. and yeah I meant sweet potatoes
|
I just had sweet potatoes with tuna cooked in butter . Soo good. I think sweet potatoes are fine. Its not really paleo because its literally pure starch but there's a lot of anthropological evidence that it was a staple in native's diets. And some of these natives were like the most healthiest humans ever. Perfect teeth, strong built bodies, long life spans, etc. I don't even really think all bread is bad it just mostly quality and ingredients used to make modern bread which is the problem. Which also includes practically all processed foods. I always liked this quote in one of the sites in op
The PaNu EM2 is not a diet composed of prehistoric food items, it is a metabolic state that we are trying to live in while eating foods that exist now. Which means no, paleo does not strive for us to go around with home made bows and arrows hunting deers outside lol.
|
Which is unfortunate because that sounds like fun and venison is delicious
|
For you, you probably don't even need the bow and arrow. You just rush to the deer and tackle it. And while its stunned you just pick it up on your back and bring it home.

America must be cheap if you can eat Paleo for $5-10 a day -__-

These aren't top cuts of meat, as has just been established, And you're eating this cheap because that's your AIM (picking which meats and veggies etc. to eat based on cost more than anything else) but if you're careful about it, yeah you can probably get away with that.
Venison is the MOST delicious meat in existence. I haven't had it in years though, since my dad shot his last deer. Someone start a business where they raise deer and sell venison. I want.

I started my Starting Strength thanks to this thread and everyone's advice. Really enjoying it, never thought squatting 3 times in a week would be beneficial until now. Only a week in so not much progress yet. My gym doesn't allow power cleans, mainly because of bad experiences before with people dropping weights. So I have to do the program with chin ups and pull ups.
Starting my squat over and doing deeper squats. Man do I love doing these, I feel like my previous squats were worthless compared to how I'm doing it now.. Embarrassing story...ripped my first boxers doing these on Friday.
Met my first real asshole at the gym. I was starting my first set of squats and I turned around and stepped outside the squat rack (a couple feet) to loosen up a bit. A HUGE dude (regular) jumps in my rack with an EZ Curl bar with around 140 lbs and places it on the squat rack to do curls. I see him do this a lot and really I don't care about the curl junkies since it floats their boat. I turn around and say I'm using the rack. Dude just looks at me and kind of blows me off. I call him as asshole and he shrugs me off and I head off to the power rack to do my squats since it was the only thing open.
We're doing our thing and he leaves the EZ Curl bar there and the way it was position you can't take off the weights without taking the bar off the squat rack. Some cute girl comes up to do squats but she can't lift the EZ Curl bar off the squat rack. So I come and help her out and I'm pretty pissed since I'm cleaning up after this douche. He's now at the bench doing kick backs with an 85lb dumbbell using pretty much a swinging motion just to get it up. He steps away to get some water and I grab the dumbbells and put them in my rack while I start some presses. Dude comes back flaming about how he was using the dumbbells. He starts throwing a huge hissy fit and gets talked to by the staff. Then I get warned about messing with him and that's pretty much it. Dude starts shouting how shitty the gym was and leaves.

I'm so screwed... Going into the army in 2 weeks but I'm still pretty out of shape. I did a modified version of the cindy (10 pushups, 15 squats, 5pullups 15 sit ups since I don't have a pullup bar for 20 minutes) last night and I'm so sore this morning.
|
I'd complain about him tot he management more honestly if he's leaving stuff everywhere.
They can't warn you for putting stuff away when he's leaving it everywhere. If anything they should be thanking you
