MC - Naniwa in the grand final!

I guess Hasuobs will receive a free win right?

I really hope sC wins! Such an unlucky guy. Had loads of talents but health problems kept him from becoming great.
|
I dislike Terran, but will be rooting for sC to take this tourney! GG!
|
Gogo Naniwa!
Will be interesting see sC play now that he's retired.
|
I hope Hasu or VortiX takes it.
|
Not liking Naniwas chances to much with MC and stardust in the mix. His PvP hasnt been looking good and he seems a bit borken mentally when it comes to the matchup. Will be fun to see sC though, havent seen him play in a very long time.
|
Hoping for NaNi to win this Wouldnt mind seeing sC take it neither.

Cheering for sC, always loved his playstyle and if it weren't for his collapsed lung I think he could've been something big in SC2 during the WoL days. Also he's terran, the most fun race to watch imo.
Other than that I like all the players, so however this goes I'm happy! Just hoping for some good games.

Nerchio vs notoriously aggressive protoss, this could be kind of ugly.

Yeah me too. Could forcefield the ramp and do some damage.
Also his ff was kinda bad, what server is this played on? Is MC in KR?

Ok so it is played on EU server. I think that explains the somewhat questionable forcefields.

In this case, Nerchio 2-1 everything till the finals and wins. Hasu has a decent chance against Sc. Arthur should prevail against Stardust if latency isn't too much (Arthur is sick good, top 16 gm korea and no team takes him - mindblowing). About Nani - Vortix, no idea. Naniwa has a shot until the finals, it depends if Vortix is ready or not but I still won't risk predictions.
|
I thought those FFs were ok, they were almost as good as Elfi's vs JD.
|
so they give out more than 10.000 euros now for online tourneys?!?
that invites cheating ...
i know they are pros but hey for 10.000 euro turning on the maphack for some seconds .. i think many people could get into that idea.

I feel bad for sC on that game... He was on so good spot, should have just turtled and progressed with upgrades. I can´t understand why he never went beyond 1/0 on over 20 minute game with really fast engineering bay.
Maybe the lag explains this but I just felt that sC game sense was off that game...
|
that face-to-face sniped Lair lol, it was like, i dont care ill just go with my VR and destroy you

I don't think lag affects things such as getting upgrades usually. I could be wrong, of course.

MC just doesnt care he just push forward, the gap was too big even for that battle
|
That was completely and utterly unexpected. Guess Nerchio didn't expect for MC to target exactly the lair...

Nerchio got pretty much as good of a fight as he could hope for, but MC just had a much better army. More infestors might have helped, but no real time to get them out.

Is there a possibility he won't? There's a ton of money at stake.

He won't actually show up in person, it's an online tournament. We won't know until the lobby is set up.

Fair enough, it looks like everyone are present!

Btw., the bracket shown on stream is another then the bracket on LP and I am pretty sure, that the LP bracket was the one, which was shown on stream a few weeks ago and since then got changed. The correct bracket should be: sC - Hasu Arthur - Stardust Naniwa - Vortix MC - Nerchio
|
(1796) NaNiwa 0-0 VortiX (1754) ----------------------------------------- 26.91% 2-0 0-2 23.16% 25.90% 2-1 1-2 24.03% ----------------------------------------- 52.81% 47.19%
Median outcome: NaNiwa 2-1 VortiX Estimated by Aligulac. Modify.
And remember, vote TheBB for L'sTLCMAT!

naniwa just let vortix do whatever he wanted

Its already over!?!?
I made a sandwich and the full game started AND finished?

First time I've ever seen that attack work on that map. Most time it's just ling/hydra, Vortix gets it right. You really need those roaches.

Shame that Nathanias doesn't seem to be aware of Nani's cannon rushing during his last tournament.

Okay, so this is what that build is. It's a flexible macro build. You go one-gate exp, into three gates and a forge. You get +1, then a twilight. Build sentries all the time, get up to 6+. You can pressure if you like with three gates and usually that's done, not sure why Nani didn't.
After that you get a third, Blink, +2. All the while you scout with your hallucinated phoenix since you got so much energy. You attack with +2 Blink Stalkers if you don't see anything weird (Swarmhosts for example). It's a really nice build because you can tech into whatever you like, get +3 attack, etc.

I think in this game he lost because he didn't kill off any of the early Roaches, except two. And then it's the issue with Derelict and the piece between the natural and main. It's a very Yeonseu build where you get the third by the collapsible rocks and get a pretty good defensive position, though.
But yeah, maybe the build is exploitable to what happened in that game. I've seen the build hold those attacks quite well, though.

Nathanias hasn't watched Nani in the last tournaments, what a shame.

I think so, this build is 3-4 super fast rays with a MSC, then just go kill a hath somewhere. No way any standard zerg build will have enough anti air that early.

Suicide engagement inc.
went better than expected for Vortix but too far behind.

Nathanias calling this entire game wrong imo, Vortix was stuck on low tech vs a protoss who was maxing out.

He must have suspected at least, you can't take a fight vs stalkers without assuming that they can blink. No way you build that many stalkers and not have blink. If he didn't, Naniwa would have gotten chargelots instead, they do a number on pure hydra armies.

Im listening to music so didnt hear this particular commentary but nathanias is usually pretty good imo, but maybe he shines more in matchups involving terran.

I actually don't agree, not with what Naniwa did. Speedlings are incredibly strong vs gateway expands. Usually though, they're on two base rather than one.

It's not safe three bases. It had a secure natural, but the third was very difficult to take and hold. Which is why the map saw a lot of 2-base all-ins from Protoss.

The way VortiX attacked (pooling the Lings before moving in) cost him I feel, had he gone with the first 6-10 I think he could've dealt more damage. When he had the 20-ish in the MSC was already more than halfway done. He should probably start droning sooner or build his hatch way earlier

You can get lucky brackets with 2 foreigners and a fading Korean, or you can get Soulkey and Dear. A month long break due to wrist issues is not really going to help overall results either.
Better players? I say Innovation, Dear and Jaedong are pretty much as good as they get.
Not saying Nani is better/worse, or that he's beaten better opponents. Just that both of them have taken out the top of the top this year.

And JD was back when his ZvP was still lulzworthy. Dear is the only player there that compares right now, both Bomber and Maru are better than Innovation currently.

Updated my post to clarify what I meant. And yeah, Scarlett has obviously beat the best as well (jjakji ffs!). I just don't think it's what set them apart.
And Bomber/Maru being better than Innovation is very subjective I'd say (personally I rate Maru the highest!).

No it is not a Swedish culture thing, quite the contrary. Don't give us a bad name here!
Being a bit BM is one thing and I approve of that, but this I thought was lame. Now, if Vortix would punch Nani in the face next time they see each other I would approve of that too. That would be according to Swedish culture.

cool to see that sC still played even though he retired

Feel bad for the tournament that it's all PvP from now, as if the low visibility and hype already wasn't enough.

I'm interested to see what the Oracle buff did to PvP, haven't seen a PvP since the patch, but every Protoss seems to complain about it.
Also it reminds me of EPS.

But this idea that Scarlett beat him just because he went and derped is just inane. She beat him in multiple series, post and pre patch. Most of these she just outplayed him, just by being faster and better. Bomber did not wet the bed, he just lost to someone who played better.
Nani has done really well for himself, but he has also been rather fortunate with brackets at times. Every time he goes against a top 5 zerg he pretty much gets smashed.
And yes, Maru is the best terran overall no doubt, apart from Taeja ofc.

Well, oracles will always do damage (and sometimes out right win if your opponent is moving out on the map) vs 'normal' builds. Of course, it is hard countered by Phoenix openings. But with Phoenix openings, you are way behind vs the normal builds. Although most mirrors have paper scissor rock type early game, it is very extreme in PvP right now.

I generally think protoss is easier to play from a mechanical perspective, and the wealth of aggressive options and compact, powerful armies lend themselves better to upsetting really strong opponents.

Phoenix openings can actually be incredibly strong. 3-gate Phoenix variants can outright beat Robo builds, Oracle-first Stargates and even Blink before critical mass is reached.

That's a fact (in prize winnings and being the only foreigner at the global finals). If he or Scarlett is really the better player I guess we can't tell for sure though. Scarlett has beaten better players, Nani has done better in tournaments, I guess it's up to what your criteria are like. I personally don't care too much about how far someone goes in a tournament, I care about who they play against. You can get lucky brackets with 2 foreigners and a fading Korean, or you can get Soulkey and Dear. A month long break due to wrist issues is not really going to help overall results either. Better players? I say Innovation, Dear and Jaedong are pretty much as good as they get. As opposed to Bomber/Maru/Life/MC/MMA? And JD was back when his ZvP was still lulzworthy. Dear is the only player there that compares right now, both Bomber and Maru are better than Innovation currently. Inno is much more consistent than Bomber. Well that's not actually hard. No one implied that about Scarlett. I just don't think you can say that Bomber is better than Inno currently. It's pretty close, but the comparisons are also always going to be flawed because they don't play the same race, some opponents are just going to be stronger or weaker in that match-up. I generally think protoss is easier to play from a mechanical perspective, and the wealth of aggressive options and compact, powerful armies lend themselves better to upsetting really strong opponents. Of course a Scarlett fan is going to think that protoss is easier to upset with.. what a surprise Ret, Hastem and Artosis seem to agree with me in general. Anyway, it doesn't matter, it's just an opinion. Naniwa would have been a top player regardless of race.

A mind game doesn't have to be a blind gamble. Something like saving up chrono boost, let it get scouted and then not go for a warp gate attack and just expand instead. It might leave you somewhat behind in what you could've been in economy, but the mind game might make your opponent overdefend.
I guess it's sort of a coin flip, but it's more about tricking your opponent than just trying to blindly caught your opponent off guard.

When you do something on purpose because you believe your opponent will react in a certain way, and it works, it is a mindgame. For example, not putting down your 3rd pylon inbase, but still not proxying your oracle.
When you are the victim of a mindgame, you say it's a dirty coinflip.
Edit : There are also actual coinflips, but the mindgame is "better" than a coinflip because you assume that you know how your opponent will react.

I guess a mindgame would be something like cancelling your spire after your opponent has seen it because you know your opponent will prepare for mutas you don't have.
A coinflip would be like lolincaDTrush warping in 4 DT's with all your gates without checking to see if your opponent has a cannon at the front first.
A "Moon" would be like building a fake third hatch so that your opponent thinks your expanding and then cancelling it even though your opponent never scouted it, thus doing EXACTLY what your opponent thinks you're doing.

My favourite was when DRG was roach rushing, made an expansion hatchery, had 600/200 floating for roaches, cancelled his natural, made ~10 roaches and then made a natural with the 300 minerals he had left. Mind games!

LMAO at Nani blaming that on PvP being luck when he misplayed it hard. Scouts that its Phoenix vs Phoenix and try to transition instead of committing to Phoenix like he needed to.

Why are casters so scared to discuss the emotions of the players?
nNniwa leaves with a ragequit and pretty much the only comment from the casters is "gg". Discuss the damn emotions! They are part of what makes sc2 great.

Life is never angry. When Sjow beat him he wanted to congratulate Sjow, but couldn't get through the mob. When he lost to Scarlett he wanted her to win the tourney.

nNniwa leaves with a ragequit and pretty much the only comment from the casters is "gg". Discuss the damn emotions! They are part of what makes sc2 great.
This 100 times. They should really discuss ragequits and bm way more if it happens. If a player bms another one, rages or complains to the ref in other sports it will always be discussed by the commentators.

SD will likely always be super dangerous in PvP, his style is tailor made for this match up

Game 3 was actually one of the better PvP's I've seen.

I started respecting Naniwa for being the only foreigner who can produce results, but this BM-BS annoys the F*ck out of me. As it's a mirror MU, he cannot blame imbalance, so Stardust is a Gambler... sure, 3-0 is gambling....

Yeah, he deserved to win, but it can still be very frustrating to play such a matchup where you can't play a solid style which Nani likes to do, so I don't understand why people hate on Nani just because he expresses his emotions, he didn't even BM.

Yeah, in mirror match-up , especially PvP, you can go 50-0 someone with just gambling. Especially when two players are of the same level. StarDust made to the finals because of his PvP, look at his run, he played 6 protosses and one terran. If there would be one zerg, he would be out. He is just really mediocre player that gets lucky very often.

He is just really mediocre player that gets lucky very often.
When he won Dreamhack Summer he beat 3 protoss, 2 terran, 7 zerg, I don't think he won that because of his luck at pvp, and on route to winning he beat 3 tops korean zergs.

Good logic though! You tried!

I think my favorite part of watching naniwa lose is the swedish fans that race to defend naniwa. For such a non nationalistic nation they sure do justify a lot of shit

Gonna go through VOD now while i work.

Good to see Naniwa crushed in PvP again.

Naniwa had such a good PvP at WoL, his two top8 GSL code s finishes are thanks to having good pvp and pvt.
Why is he having such trouble in hots? Are there more tosses at his level having troubles with pvp? (mc might be one )
I just don't get it. His recent tournament results are worse because he's losing pvp's.

You guys all focus too much on numbers. Final score, depends on combination of : nicknames, first letter of a month, and second letter of a day, the games were played.
After many months of trying, I came up with the formula once, but my SSD crushed when i tried to save it. Very complicated you see.

Always suck to come 2nd, but StarDust really outplayed him in that final
I'm hoping that NaNi will practice his PvP and PvZ now before Svecup and the showmatch between him and Scarlett.
Just mentioning this too, just because a guy is swedish on this website doesn't mean he is a fanboy of NaNiwa. I might be, but NaNi's got a lot of Swedish haters like on Fragbite itself.

Looks like ClouD and Soulkey are not actually the same person.
