I still have my PSX copy and saves on my memory card with every character at lvl 99, gold chocobo, dead weapons etc.
The only thing I balked at was the option that allows you to max HP/MP and so forth from the options menu... Implying that this game was, perhaps, too hard in the first place? WTF? I beat this game at like 14 or 15 years of age without any problems at all. Weird inclusion.
What? There definitely is not an option in the option menu to set your stats max. Maybe you had a gameshark or something. The original game does not have this stuff.

You can't really call any FF 'the best' out of 6/7/8/9 (although my personal favorite was 7 > 9 > 6 > 8).
What you can say though was that FF7 was undoubtedly the revolutionary title out the aforementioned that changed the genre forever - with not just characters + story but also the OST, the pure depth of content, graphics for the time, cutscenes, and originality.

dont know if this is good or bad, depends on the price i guess i mean, its one of my favourite games and always will be and on the one hand its awesome if they optimize the game to run on new pcs/os, since such old games always have those problems, but on the other hand, anything over 10$ would be a complete ripoff for a mere re-release of such an old game.

I played this on PC when it first came out. My PC barely had the minimum specs to run it, and it was slow as hell. I think Knights of the round actually took 10 minutes, for real. It was like playing a sideshow in parts.
Anyway, my fave is FF12.

I played FF6 before FF7 (though I never beat it) and I'm still one of the people who think FF7 is easily the best. Might very well buy this just because well... it's FF7.

I'm excited to purchase this game. I will relive the memories from my childhood. I can hardly wait.

An official website for a renewed PC version of Final Fantasy VII has surfaced, confirming that Square-Enix's classic will be available from the publisher's online store in the near future.
The updated version will feature 36 new achievements that you can compare with friends online, the site states. Cloud saves are also part of the online feature package. Another addition, "Character Booster", will apparently allow you to increase your HP, MP and Gil levels to maximum, which seems to be intended to soften the difficulty. I know it wasn't in the original; Hence my reference to it not being hard enough in the first place to warrant such a feature.

Ah ok. I didn't see that article. Indeed, what's the purpose of doing a remake if you're just going to allow "godmode" in it for ezpz play? Although you won't be able to unlock all of the limit breakers that way since some of them have to be used x amount of times before you unlock the next one and limit break build up is based off how much damage you're taking vs. your current max hp.

you can always get the ps1 version as download for your ps3, it's the original version.

I can't wait for this release, FF7 is probably(together with HL1+2) my favorite game of all time. Also wish square would release(or better yet, remake) xenogears, another one of my personal favorites.

Honestly, why do people care about that stuff? I remember playing the AvP game(PC), it had no saves, no checkpoints, nothing. Then a patch came out and it allowed a fixed number of saves depending on the difficulty.
But guess what, I didn't use it.
Nobody forces you to use these things, also games had cheat codes for ever, so it's definitely not a new thing. Although whining for whatever reason seems to be...

great news! i will play this for sure

Neat. I'd be willing to give this one more try, though my last two attempts have left me relatively unimpressed with the story and especially the gameplay. Pretty cool that they're doing this either way.

Sounds like turn based combat in rpg's just aren't your thing then. Personally wish they'd do away with the combat system they have now and return to this. Auto healing after battles is as bad as laying down in CoD to regain health.

Lol.
If you think that's comparable then I don't know what to say.

FF7 is a piece of art. A true masterpiece of its time. I haven't felt that "mood" in any other game since then. I've been hunting new RPGs ever since and never found a game that could make me feel the same way. I don't know if that's possible.. and that is probably because of my personal relation to this game.
6,8,9,10,10-2 all came close in their own ways though. Beautiful games all around! Since these games, nothing has even been close.
(suggestions welcome!!)

The point isn't what is added, but that it makes the game easier, yet nobody forces you to use it. So why care?

Yeah for better or for worse, FF7 is the epitome of the big JRPG. Was revolutionary for its time. Might decide to check it out, depending on what exactly they changed about the game.
|
Are they going to retranslate it so that I finally know if the story is that bad or if it had to do with the obviously awful 1997 French translation ? Good news anyway, my PS2 is not working that well and the original PC version I own is so buggy it's not even funny^^

Talking about final fantasy bring back good memory isn't it... I like 9 the most. Tactics also the best turn base rpg I have played. Will buy it if it is on steam. Wonder if teenage these day feel the same with diablo3 or sc2 like we do with those oldies.
