Played 2 Gambits yesterday with a pug and enemy team was a clan all with about 580 power level. Needless to say we got our asses handed to us. Not fun at all
1 thing that can make Gambit a bad experience. If everyone is chasing a certain exotic weapon that has as its requirement "get 25 headshot kills while airborne using a side arm".. or some crazy requirement like that. Stuff like that wrecks the game because players are not really trying to win. They are just jumping around all over the place trying to nail acrobatic kills... and often "kill stealing" off of their team mates.
Hopefully, Bungie will ease up on these kind of quest steps for highly demanded exotic weapons.

meh, there are sources of powerful gear in many locations because its a new week. acquire powerful gear as you are taking the quest steps in the quest line.
please, try complaining a bit less sir. and embrace the darkness....aaawwwwooooooooo + Show Spoiler +
Um there are none, so far that I know of, as they are simple weapon grinds like the Ikelos gun on Mars, which ironically you will be spending time on the most.
i have "Before the Storm" kill requirements completed well before the 40 gambit match requirements. i think most people are in the same boat. They get the kill requirements well before 40 matches.
So I: Gear up with Heavy Weapon Scavenger and enhanced Heavy Weapon reserves. I get bounties from the Drifter and Hawthorne. Play some Gambit and look to use my grenade launcher as much as i can
During part of the day i was progressing in 6 areas simultaneously:
"Before the Storm" Gambit Match Requirements to get Breakneck progress towards powerful gear after 3 gambit matches move forward in the Black Armory questline by getting Heavy Weapon kills progress towards powerful gear from Ikora by progressing towards 20 completed bounties progress towards power gear from Hawthorne when i played with a clanmate. get prime engram drops which give powerful gear.
Every player has their own unique mix of partially completed quest steps. Spend a minute or two going over that stuff and you can combine them to progress in many areas at once.
I got stalled at the Forge Ignition stage so I just did other stuff. There is lots of stuff to do and Bungie//Justin-Truman called the Annual Pass primarily end game content. i sometimes got stalled on some of the end game content in Forsaken and in vanilla D2. I guess those products offered people something new to do even if you can't do end game. Whereas, with the Annual Pass there is nothing new to do once you get stalled. So I guess that is why there is so much complaining.
my grandfather is still really pissed off that Nintendo skill-gated the 4th level of Donkey Kong behind a really tough level 3 that had springs and moving platforms and Donkey Kong throwing barrels all over the place.
The forge ignition is like sex. After you've done it the 1st time the pressure is off and you can just have fun with it. The combat is fun.. the story is interesting... the new character development is decent. Nice job by Bungie.. The recommended power level of the 1st Forge was too high by atleast 15 points.
Its impossible to know for sure because we're only a few days in ... but i suspect Black Armory will end up being $10 well spent.

People want new stuff on day 1 to play with. For many players its not easy to find 3 people at 610+. Also, when the recommended level is 625 there is a big difference between a 610 and 620 level character. Asking people to grind from 600 to over 610 is a bit much.

It takes about half a day of average powerful drops to reach ~610. It's a bit difficult but not absurd. All 3 of my characters are already 615+ with plenty of powerful rewards left to go, including the raid.

A decent # of people on my friends list do not understand enough about the levelling system to go from 600 to 610 in half a day. However, let's assume all players know as much as you do about levelling to keep the discussion moving forward.
Problem is that when i buy any kind of DLC or game i'm expecting at least some new stuff instantly. Not half a day later after playing stuff I've already played for a while. Many others think like i do as evidenced by the complaints and Bungie's instantaneous 5 level drop for the 1st Forge.
I think Paul Tassi of Forbes proposed an excellent solution that still keeps all other Forges difficult while giving level 570 to 600 players a chance to be instantly relevant in fighting for that first forge. 12% of Forsaken players are level 600.
Over all, I'm happy with the Black Armory. Over all, Bungie did a nice job on this 1st chapter of the Annual Pass. They mucked up the day 1 experience though. Navigating all this stuff is not easy .. Bungie has a tough job keeping everyone happy.
I haven't even reached those kinds of levels, i gave up on my way to 600.
I'm not gonna argue the way Destiny 2 is set up, if it works for people that's okay, to me as a solo player it was just frustrating hitting that soft wall at 500 and then just getting, well.. nothing. I got two duplicates (506 power or something) on a chest, and then just put it aside for now.
Which is really sad, since up until 500, i absolutely loved every second of the game (apart from the Cayde thing, really upset me -.-). I feel like this could've been considerably better solved, if you don't want people to instantly reach max powerlevel. Without having it feel random to the point of frustration.
That being said, i'll probably get Black Armory eventually too, just not yet.

Its hard to know how things will shake out when you roll out a new game so its a nice way to keep the game flowing the way you intended it to flow.
even Praedyth's Broken Timepiece sitting in the Blind Well is right 2 times a day

i hear you dawg.
one frustrating thing about power levelling is getting a new piece of armor or a new weapon that is the same type as the highest level item you already have in your load out. i heard someplace Ada-1 will reveal the rewards of her bounties as being EITHER a new powerful weapon OR a new powerful armor piece. this helps alleviate the frustration of power levelling somewhat and go after the bounties and milestones that address your character's current weaknesses.
EDIT: apparently the armor/weapon detail for rewards was also provided in the Taken King Expansion of Destiny1.
Yup. Or the new 504 power weapon being a sword, or in general a weapon that i simply don't like (SMGs ugh) but kinda am forced to use if i don't want to use up the crafting stuff on low level gear.
I'm just not a fan of artificially manipulating item drops (as in, the itemlevel) to prevent players from getting somewhere, having them play roulette. Of course it's doable, there's plenty of players out there that done it obviously, but for less "active" players like me (rust electricity update, ..) you get to a point where it's getting repetitive for no real gain. You don't "feel" the upgrade, it's just that a number changed from 504 to 505. Which wasn't the case up until 500. Something that poisons other games too - if i get new shinies, i want to hit harder. It's kinda as simple as that. Otherwise it's not satisfying and kind of defeats the point of collecting upgrades (for me).
But hey, that's okay. I'll just take a break from Destiny 2, wait until another DLC release, and probably play through both of those. I handle other games like WoW equally, subscribe for a month, look at the new content/addon, and be done. Works for me.
A warning for players engaged in Black Armory activities. This was identified a day or two ago by a user and a community manager responded within hours to say they were monitoring it. Its now confirmed by the Bungie Tech people. So this is a pretty fast response.

it is an elusive balance... you want the excitement of a cool new random finds out in the wild ... without giving the player the feeling of "artificially manipulating item drops".
and if you feel this way... in a way.. Bungie has failed. there really isn't an objective "answer" to this.
The "Prime Engram" drops thing. It "feels" somewhat artificial to me. Whereas, in Borderlands, when you're out there digging around and you find something that works really well for you... you really feel like its a reward for you digging thru every scrap of crap your latest dead victim had in his possession.
