I haven't been following the Star Citizen development cycle at all but my group of friends want to get into this game 100%.
Is there a link somewhere where I can find updated information on everything I need to know to make an informed purchase? We aren't looking to drop 100's or 1000's on the game, just want to all get the game at a relatively basic level (or possibly a "collectors" edition) level of the game with "early access" beta. I know you can just buy on their website with the pledge option for $40 but there are just so many damn ways to spend your money on their website. It's a bit of a pet peeve of mine the way it's setup, but understandable as they want to offer a diverse way of backing and funding their project.
So, is there a place where I can find the info I'm looking for in a short and concise page?
Also, anyone have any ideas on what the "typical" player has been going for?

Just get the Aurora package that includes beta and the full game. It's about $40 right now I think? Pay an extra $5 to get into Version 1 of Arena Commander.

Am I confusing you for someone else or are you the one that was helping out at the first green forest LAN for some different stream stuff?
Thanks for the tip, that's more or less the gist of what I"ve gathered as far as buying for SC too
Hm, didn't see the video on your channel. I never saw the stream online before (I was the one who sponsored the prizes for the tourny) Cool to see a familiar face on tl after some years go by
valkyrie is a glorified space unreal tournament, definately something to watch out for if you are into VR and especially the Oculus Rift. Star Citizen will hopefully be much more than that, with inherent trading, exploring, fighting and even its own story driven single player campaign. The same thing with Elite: Dangerous, very pretty indeed and id love to play it if beta access wasnt 200 friggin uk pounds. But a space shooter nonetheless, not a full blown mmorpg space sim.
I was gonna say they haven't shown anything special at all yet except that they have some decent artists who are leaning on a game engine that someone else wrote.
I really want to find a good game and i hope this will be it. But so far all i have seen is hype over basically the output of [insert 3d modelling program here]
This dogfight better be worth it lol. Implementing a 3d spaceflight sim is really not hard with only a meager understanding of things like matricies - its like the very basics of 3d geometry.
I am pretty excited to see how this goes, I've only dipped in here and there and mostly seen the dogfighting content, which looks fantastic.
I'm more curious as to how the rest of the game will function, early stuff I saw a player model walking around on a capital ship, stuff like that was what drew me into the idea of a 'total' experience.
I assume there will be linkage, with factions of players based on capital ships which contain fighters for deployment and other things like that?

yeah, that's at least what they plan on doing. It will take a lot of time to get that out though. It's also what brought me in, the idea of not only making a space dogfighting sim but also adding all the other stuff like first-person-shooting, trade, exploration. There will be small ships but also bigger ships where some people have to sit in turrets and have to do other work on the ship and then there will be giant capital ships with a bunch of fighters on board that can be launched etc. The pure scale of this game is amazing. But it will take years to get to that stage where we can play all these things.
