The subject of this thread is not a license to roll out your inaccurate, misinformed, poorly conceived, tired, and downright offensive theories about race relations. |

except its not a witch hunt. everything he was accused of has now been admitted, right? we are just waiting for judgment from EG. it is a fucking witch hunt. He said some shit to someone on the sc2 ladder, in private. And now totally unrelated people want him to get fired from his job??? thats not a witch hunt. witch hunts are where people are accused of witchcraft and everyone throws bullshit claims in there to support it (none of which are actually true, or even related to witchcraft). orb was accused of using insensitive language, and for the most part it looks it is true as he has admitted it. but today this term is used metaphorical to explain situations that get blown out of proportion. In earlier times women were called witches because they had red hair, were simply strange or could magicaly cure people, but they were hunted down and burned for being witches. Today it seems to be enough to misbehave in private.

It's not persecution. The criminal is irrelevant; the crime is important. Your analogy is stupid. .....calling someone a "nigger" or a "faggot" isn't a crime.

See...if it was a player who did this, no one would care. But since it's a caster...everyone on teamliquid has to go get their pitchforks. Please close this thread.

while its highly unprofessional i guess for someone with his community status.. idk what kind of punishment he deserves. Its unprofessional but it is just ladder rage but I guess its stil the point of making a point

If you're letting something as stupid as this keep you from enjoying the game and its community, you live a sad life and I hope you get your priorities in order. Yeah because my feelings on whether or not it's appropriate for the people who are representing esports to the masses to hatefully use the words 'nigger' and 'faggot' is a direct representation of my lifes priorities. It's so funny because the same people who say "it's just the internet, who cares!" are the same ones saying "support esports, make esports grow, we love esports!". You're on a site dedicated to StarCraft 2, Orb ( as sad as it is ) represents a huge orginzation that is vital to the growth of StarCraft and eSports in general. When he acts like the immature, raging, ignorant child that he is ( seriously why did they hire him ) it reflects horribly on both SC and eSports. If you can't understand that then I don't know what to say. Do you think any of EG's sponsors would be happy about this? No. Do you think this is something that EG is happy about? No. Do you think that in the future when sponsors look at EG's past employees that this is something that is going to make them want to invest in them? No. Uh, when orb is at home playing ladder games, that's his personal life. Nothing of that should be connected to his work. If you don't want to see him enjoying his free time, don't hunt him down, don't watch his stream. Vysage, you get it. Thank you so freaking much. People aren't forced to watch his stream or hear his casts. God ur dumb...imagine Day9 saying the N word...AT ALL!!!! Please learn what being a professional is before u type anything....an NFL player would get kicked off a team if he publicly said the N word I agree.. In my opinion.. it doesn't matter if he's streaming on his own time or not.. he represents for EG and eSports.. this was completely unnecessary. I raged a lot in BW BGH and UT99.. but this whole being in the spotlight thing is so much different. I'd EASILY be able to restrain myself from explosions like that.. I'd just be so damned happy to be involved in esports, even at his level. While I re-read this, it seems difficult. I mean, sure, I guess he IS on his own time.. but streaming seems like a mix of work/play.. I dunno what I'm trying to say, but, if it were me and I was streaming, even to only a dozen people.. if I was involved in eSports like orb and I was laddering, while streaming.. I'd be pretty damned careful. Anyway.. may the force be with you. XD You're funny! So if its in the spotlight is all the sudden so much different? How the fuck does that work? By that thinking making racial slurs in private is fine? People take offense to it because it morally degrading. Shouldn't something that is morally incorrect be just as bad in private as in public? Kind of like saying rape is OK if its never made public but the fact you made the news everyone jumps on the bandwagon and it "so different"....
OBVIOUSLY it's not OK at ANY time. My point is that if you're in the spotlight and you have rage issues.. best work your ass off to CONTROL yourself. This display is utter madness.. can't fathom someone in his position to think it OK to behave that way.

Do we even know when these particular uhm ''incidents'' occurred? This could have happened months ago whenm orb wasn't with EG and wasn't a professional name. If i just missed something in the op or on reddit feel free to call me an idiot.

Here is the real deal:
1. This kid is an idiot for using that language as a tagged member of EG. Nothing else you can really say here 2. I bet 90% of the people in this thread aren't black, which means you really have no opinion on the matter that's relevant. Akin to males having an opinion on abortion. It's nice that you care, but in the long run your opinion is worthless. 3. People are seriousness over-reacting to this. He didn't say this during a tournament, he didn't say this to me malicious, and I don't think he said this to be racist. Considering I should be offended by this word, and I am not in this context, I don't think this guy is a racist.
To surmise: WHO.FUCKING.CARES? The only issue at this point is that he lied about it. He should have apologized and moved on. The lying is worse than the word imo

I also don't believe that because he used racist words it means he is straight up racist. Anyone that has rage quit before knows you just search for the worst possible words to throw and you launch them. I know I've dropped quite a few homophobic slurs on people after losing and I don't really care either way about one's sexuality.
Doesn't the fact that the worst possible word he could come up with was nigger make him racist? Don't care much for any of this but it will make EG look bad if they don't fire him after their first statement...

Hi, If you recall the old IdrA rage from early sc2 and when he started streaming he was quite similar to this (Maybe not as far as using the word 'nigger') but he did use faggot, and fuck you, and bitch, and a lot of other foul or derogatory terms. If they let Greg slide, they should give orb a chance as well.
Just my opinion.

Don't really care about the racial slurs. I just find him stupid for lying to EG about it.

Its incredibly hurtful if you actually a minority. At least HuKPOWA is intellignet... Edit: this post had nothing to do with orb, im just appalled at how much people think nigger doesn't hurt someone that is actually blacks feeling. after getting called a nigger from someone raging in hockey when i was 14 i can say that i wanted to cry. Condoning the use of shit like this is rediculous.
Are you black or chinese? you say nigger and chink without any hesitation online. But I guess its okay because you're just describing why its not okay for other people to say it right? This is where context is important. You're obviously not using those terms as a racist. I don't think Orb was either.
I do think nigger is still offensive to black people so I agree with you that people condoning it is ridiculous. However, the majority of us are guilty of using offensive words as well. Orb should DEFINITELY receive a heavy punishment for that and for *potentially* lying to EG's management.

LoL has already overtaken starcraft, and we'll be around here forever.
When LoL gets even bigger, we'll take down every single player who does stuff like this by making sure they never get a sponsorship.
Enjoy political correctness. We're overcoming e-sports. LoL, Starcraft, nothing will stand up to this. We're the real world.

I know my opinion will get ripped to shreds but seriously, in so many other countries, something like this wouldn't even warrant a second glance. Here in America, you have to watch literally every single word you say because people are thin-skinned fools and take things way too literally. I will also say people keep using certain words because they know it offends someone. You are wrong. Political correctness in public is taken very seriously in Germany and I doubt it's any diferent in other european countries. Basically the whole bm incident isnt that much of a deal though. He should have apologized and said he's gonna try to keep his temper in the future and nobody would have said anything. Even if he kept raging on his stream. The fact that he lied to his management, tried to cover it up and called all of this slander, attacking the people who posted and then wrote a useless apology when it all came out was just plain stupid. He got himself into this mess and for that he probably deservered the shitstorm thats goin on right now. On the subject of raging: I play Hon a lot and staying calm is often not an option. I rage a lot, i curse, i flame. Still I don't use racial expressions. Why would I? It doesn't improve the rage. Using racial expressions does mean something. I can just as well call someone an asshole. I have heard though that most Europeans think that Americans overreact in terms of swear words in public or on TV. I can understand the political correctness though. Yeah, we dont *beep* out swear words. But given the Nazi history people are extremely sensitive when it comes to racial stuff..
Ah alright then, thank you for clearing that up for me =)
