Dozens of soldiers killed, half dozen patrol ships lost. Federation warp signature also a warp signature on an unknown federation ship. Advanced weaponry, debris. All around a "deserted" province, better not check up on that.

Benedict Cumberbatch was awesome especially dat voice of his. I love how menacing, cold, and calculating he is in the movie. I did get a small vibe of The Avengers when the soldiers were escorting Khan to his holding chamber and even his chamber was a little similar to Loki's. I'm not a fan of Abrams' style when it comes to action scenes since they jump around too quick to get what is going on some times. I can see if he wanted to go for a chaotic feel such as the scene with the Klingons. Overall, it was a very good and entertaining movie. I agree his voice was awesome. Fun fact: Benedict Cumberbatch is voicing Smaug the dragon in the Hobbit movies.

+ Show Spoiler + I thought Khan's role in the movie was fine overall. It's his introductory role into the movies, we get to see him manipulate and roll out some elaborate schemes. I expect that in future movies we'll see him appear again, only in a more central role where he actually has personal resources at his disposal. Agree about the endings taking too long. I saw the Kirk revival coming the instant he went into the radiation chamber and that killed all the suspense of the moment because there was too much foreshadowing. On the other hand, if they didn't foreshadow it at all, it would have seemed completely out of left field. Tricky balance for what is basically just a sloppy scenario.

Part of the big issue with that is the foreshadowing happened during one of the few slow periods of the movie. Fast fast fast fast, take a look at this for a bit, gogogogogogo!

the stuff leading up to Khan getting onto the dreadnaught and everything after that thing crashes + Show Spoiler + Really I think the main problem with this movie is that it lacks focus on a coherent villain. What do the bad guys even do? They don't do anything and not enough time is spent on developing what they want to do exactly. This leads to not much being at stake except the lives of the characters which the movie doesn't even put at risk that much because it foreshadows way too much... except maybe Chekov because of him being out of his element and you don't actually know where they are going with it (no where, just giving him something to do). Admiral wants a war with the Klingons? Okay, but why should we care, we don't have a reason within this movie. Oh he dead now, guess that didn't matter much. So now Khan wants to get his crew back to blah blah blah name drop eugenics blah blah blah? Oh wait, he gets the dreadnaught and it gets blowed up so well, that was suspenseful? What? Such a mess, I did like how the + Show Spoiler + ending implies they might stop referencing and relying so much on existing Trek Lore. That would be great,

Reading some of the responses, they do make sense in criticizing the movie, but I still definitely enjoyed it. I'm very very willing to immerse myself and suspend disbelief

+ Show Spoiler + When they opened the first Torpedo everyone was very concerned. They went to a remote location and nearly died trying. Minutes later the other 71!!! were opened in a blink of an eye .....on the ship Spock is obviously not the only one who gives a @!&?

Figure out how to do it and prove it on the second one after you've studied the complete data from the thing you've already dismantled + Show Spoiler + and uploaded into the computer with a sexy weapons specialist. BAM. It gets easier for the next however many things you are doing. + Show Spoiler + To be honest, I'm still annoyed that Nurse Chapel was a quick throw-away reference.

There was a real possibility of setting up something with her and Spock/Uhura, too. To those who don't know, Nurse Chapel (incidentally Roddenberry's wife) from the OS had a longtime crush on Spock. I guess too much happened too fast in the movie for something like that to play out. In a future movie, perhaps? But, yes, there was no need to just reference her.

And would, also very likely, die at the box-office. The best, quintessentially, ST themes are best left to TV, IMO. Precisely. People often rag on bands that go "mainstream" to make more sales, usually softening their style and recording far more even-tempo and high volume vocals then they used to. JJ has done exactly the same with ST, but this will be his last movie ( http://screencrush.com/star-wars-episode-7-jj-abrams-star-trek/) Star Wars Ep7 will be just as cinematic and action packed, and will make a billion dollars, and maybe whoever takes over Star Trek will give us a cool cold war movie with the klingons or something that will make people think.

In the new star trek movies I can hardly find any seemingly unresolvable moral dilemmata. How about the question of terrorists who flee to territory of an enemy force? Do you risk war by chasing? Do you send Basically it's the "kobayashi maru" question twisted with a terrorist instead of innocent (?) civilians. But Kirk had no reason to believe that the criminal he was after would stop bombing federational territory. Just because Jean Luc doesn't hold a speech about it doesn't mean it isn't there Edit: Just to be clear: Adm. Marcus stated that the situation was already heated with the klings attacking(?) fed ship. I liked the movie but I felt that the change of tone at the beginning between fun/dark was a bit off. But bonus to cumberbatch. He did a great job. He is better - at everything.

+ Show Spoiler + iirc, the movie is set in 2259. This would make the creation of the whole super-human people be in 1959. I mean it doesn't ruin the movie or anything like that at all, it just stuck out to me as a little odd. Eh, not important, but Spock did say that he'd already done something with killing people to get his crew back. I don't know the history of this universe but I figured it was meant to be ours.

I think that the time elapsed from the Enterprise infiltrating Klingon space to the end of the movie is a day at the most, probably more like 10-12 hours. I'm pretty sure the blowback of the mission to capture Khan is going to be front and center from the start of the next movie.

That said, given Star Trek's history, that it's all about exploring and Kirk is the most fearless/irrational explorer of them all, they obviously had to bring him back. I was slightly annoyed when with the tribble because we all knew what was going to happen, but on the other hand I think it was the best move to bring Kirk back, plus they executed that scene magnificently. Overall, I loved the movie. Seeing the broken Enterprise was just awesome. I'm just curious what they're planning to do with Khan's crew, and why he didn't see the armed torpedoes coming.
