The games themselves with Cosmic Aftershock was pretty boring most of it was just stomping other teams. The other games were much closer and way more interesting to watch. Hope we get a lot more teams of CA's level soon.
I agree about the level disparity between CA and they opposition, particularly in how well they were able to adapt to different strategy approaches. Octophonix or whatever that team was named was upsetting big teams with that dedicated goalie strat. But after game 1 being close, CA adjusted and just crushed them by double digits. I was hoping Untethered would put up more of a fight. They seemed a bit off in that series with multiple over-commitments to aerials and a lack of synergy on offense.
I think it was also the strength of Gibbs though, he's such a competent defender and defensive mid fielder. Was discussing it with a friend I think CA has the right combination of players atm. You've got gibbs who is ultra defensive (which he isn't but for lack of a better designation I'll just call him that), Kronovi as ultra offensive and sadjunior which plays in between that perfectly by being there for good setups and helping out with midfield a lot too.
Most of the other teams just got so pressured into their own half so that they couldn't build up any sort of attack I think it was the third game between CA and VQ where they were finally able to break that pressure and score a couple of goals and take it to overtime. That was the most interesting game of the series for me.
Just bought the game. I credit Kronen for linking the Cosmic Aftershock vs. Kings of Urban match.
The problem is, I'm a PC gamer and I don't own a controller. I'm wondering what controllers the competitive dudes use and looking for suggestions. I've always been a Playstation guy rather than Xbox but I'd be totally willing to get used to an Xbox controller just for this game (and Dark Souls).
you can use a program to have your PS3 controller function exactly the same as an xbox. I have the program that lets my wife play on a ps3 controller while I play on my xbox360 controller. personally I favor the xbox, and something about the thumbsticks on the ps3 with that program feel funny. I'm having trouble finding the program right now, but I know it's not the popular motioninjoy one you'll see linked everywhere.
If you liked that linked video just you wait.... As soon as MLG uploads the video, I'll link the final series of the EU vs NA grudgematch!! It was amazingly good. If you though the KoU-CA match was good... just wait. Just wait. :-) There won't be spoilers in the link.
I'll be posting the official shoutcast and the Gibbs eye-view. As of now I've only seen the Gibbs video and it was great to see them in action. Their communication is really working much better of late. Sadjunior is actually communicating effectively and Kronovi has grown into the role of coach and motivational speaker. They are getting stronger.
EDIT: yea... after a good deal of looking I can't find the program or the original link. Might try the motioninjoy one if they allow for better thumb calibrations. Or I could just be mis-remembering and using the Better DS3 config file for the motioninjoy. Try this link.
EDIT EDIT: and I don't see your name on the buddy list *ahem* heheh. Feel free to add me.

Edit: Kronovi plays with a PS controller? Forget Xbox then
For anyone else that may still be wondering:
I have a 360 and an Xbox One controller. The d-pad and normal buttons feel better on the Xbox One, the triggers feel better on the 360 (the Xbox One controller feels more linear in its force curve, if that makes sense). The analog sticks feel pretty similar on both (although the 360 might be slightly better). I use the Xbox One controller exclusively now (mainly because it has a cord, whereas my 360 controller is wireless and thus requires me to recharge batteries often), but I think I could switch between the two fairly easily, would just need a day or so to get used to it again.
Great posts guys! Kronovi plays with a PS controller as they all started the game with the PS4 beta. I'm sure there's a program to get that controller to interface with the PC as well.
In anticipation of MLG uploading the full EU vs NA showmatch, I'll hype it a bit with a gif Gibbs describes as "the best save of his career."
If the image loading is annoying I can put it in spoilers. No spoilers in the gif as to how the games turn out.
Yeah it seems most tourneys are played on the PS4 so far, so playing with a PS4 controller is kinda unavoidable. Overall, the Xbox controllers and Dualshocks are pretty much the best gamepads on the market so you can go for it. No idea how the steam controller will turn out though. I personally pley with an arcade stick (mini hori 3) 'cause that's all I have, works fine :^) I just need the keyboard for quick chat.
Awesome save by Gibbs indeed.
Also do you guys play mostly ranked or what ? I've only played normals so far but I'm considering ranked 'cause I'm getting really annoyed by the fact the games puts you in games already half-done. Most of the cases of leavers are because of rage, so starting to play 0-3 with 3min left is extremely frustrating. It seems this does not happen in ranked right ?

Actually all tournaments are played cross-platform these days! It's pretty easy to make cross-platform lobbies. The players within each team have to be on the same platform. Partying across platform isn't available yet.
Edit to answer your question: Being tossed into a leavers game is impossible in ranked. It's also impossible to start a ranked game without all parties readying to play. That being said, you'll still experience the occasional ragey child quitting or petulantly demanding you forfeit early etc etc. All I have to say is thank god for the mute function.

I don't really play ranked 3v3 since the update because it can be premade vs randoms and only pay 2v2 with a friend. 1v1 you get the ragekids. You get 1 'lucky' kickoff ball and they immediately spam OMG SUCH LUCK NOOB L2P after which you silence their bullshit with another 6 goals that were not lucky in the slightest, but I do get really fucking tired of 1v1 ranked because of them and the kickoff which they really need to change. I tend to play 3v3 pubs for fun and to practice my aerials. I don't mind losing too much in unranked.
On the controller issue I don't think Xbox or PS controllers really do anything for how you play, they both have thumbsticks and buttons and it really comes down to your own play. That said though I highly doubt you could play this game without a decent controller. I would recommend the Xbox Controller as it works with every game that has (partial) controller support and doesn't require 3rd party programs. I think it comes down to personal preference mostly though, I mean I've always played Xbox and never touched Playstation controllers (outside of the, imo, awful ps1 and 2 ones) so I might be slightly biased towards Xbox related products.
edit: Also I'm pretty sure that CA played from PC (they didn't have the icon for playstation's online thing) in the go4 (which hilariously sounded like gopher to me everytime the casters mentioned it xD) thing.
Thanks for all the comments. I'll probably get an Xbox One controller because it's cheaper than PS4 and more likely to be compatible with other PC games. And it might be fun to try out something new.
Cosmic Aftershock representing North America vs. Europe's own Flipsid3 Tactics (formerly Team Weamy)
Format: Best of 7. The first two games will be played on one continent's server. Then the next three will be played on the opposition's server. Game 6 goes back to the original server with Game 7 (if needed) decided by a coin flip.
Weamy/Flipsid3 has been dominating all the EU Go4RL tournaments consistently winning or placing highly. These excellent games speak for themselves.... Without further ado:
I bought an Xbox One controller yesterday and spent the whole night playing with some friends. Stayed up three hours later than I intended... But the game is fantastic. It's also a lot better with a controller, which everyone knows.
A RL friend of mine pre-ordered the Steam Controller and was pleasantly surprised with his copy of Rocket League. It's a pretty smart cross-promotion thing on Steam's part, but if you pre-order the controller you get a copy of RL and Portal 2 I believe.
In related news, the NA scene is equalizing! The last two weekly tournaments, ESL and Gamebattles, have seen Cosmic Aftershock fall in the semis! Kings of Urban and Untethered are consistently challenging the crowned champions of the Pre-Season. KyleMasc from Kings of Urban, the guy who hit the last second shot in the first MLG tournament, is streaming more and has a good personality/approach to his audience. Check his stream and twitter if so inclined :-).
